CHARLIE HAINES, PIONEER RESIDENT DIES SUDDENLY

The residents of Blairstown were shocked upon learning Friday morning that some time during the night, Charlie Haines a pioneer resident had passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mary Coder where he has made his home the past ten years. On Thursday, he was about town apparently in his usual health and planning to leave Friday morning to go to a ditching job. He went to his room at bed time, as usual. About 11 o'clock when his remains were found, he had apparently been dead for several hours. He must have passed away in his sleep as the bed clothes were not disarranged in any way that would indicate that he suffered.

Charles T. Haines was born near Blairstown, Iowa, December 14, 1856 and passed away March 24, 1921 at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 10 years || sic. His wife preceded him in death 26 years. After her death he filled the place of father and mother to his two motherless little daughters and all of the residents of that period will testify as to how well he accomplished that work. The little girls under his loving care grew up to beautiful womanhood, a credit to his training and to the community.
