U/G Tempo

One of the hottest new IBC decks is U/G Tempo. This deck is the combination between beatdown and control, acting as the old solution deck did, to neutralize all threats and win with an army of small but useful creatures. It's a very solid and fast deck, and has no true weakness, except other fast decks, and mirror matches. There are several decklists for this, each a little different from the other in a weird but effective way.

the first decklist is the original one, simple yet effective. The point of this deck is to try to get a second turn creature and start the beatdown from there. Bounce everything and counter threats and your weenies will be victorious! The deck contains 12 creatures for 2 mana and 4 for 4. Blurred mongoose is a neccesity, as it foils other blue deck strategies and is a 2/1 for 2. Flame tongue kavu can't target it, so it's better to put a mongoose on turn 2, rather than a titan or a skyfolk, since it will probably be able to attack a few times before they manage to kill it.By then, you should have a counter to back up your mongoose. The deck is packed with bounce and temporal springs, which acts like a poor man's timewalk. Bounce a land and if they're playing a slow deck, they literally skip their next turn! The other bounce helps clear the way for your weenies. Here's the decklist:

4 blurred mongoose
4 kavu titan
4 gaea's skyfolk
4 mystic snake

4 temporal spring
4 rushing river
4 repulse
4 prohibit/exclude (depends on your local environment)
4 fact or fiction

4 yavimaya coast
10 island
10 forest

All of the decks are built off this one.

The second decklist is a modified version of this deck. This deck barely ever gets mana screwed. It has very little amounts of land but Lay of the Land helps to get the lands you need and thin out your deck! It actually has quite a bit of card drawing, like the other but draws less lands. It works better in late game than the other and is overall a better deck. The way to play this one is similar. Plop down a few weenie creatures, bounce, counter and win! The mystic snakes especially help because of their counter/beatdown. Here's the deck:

4 blurred mongoose
4 kavu titan
4 gaea's skyfolk
4 mystic snake

4 temporal spring
4 rushing river
4 repulse
4 exclude
4 fact or fiction
4 lay of the land
2 life death (or any other finisher)

4 yavimaya coast
7 island
7 forest

Life death is the finishing card where you either run out of creatures or for the final shot with a few land.

Tempo works very well, except for one fact: creatures with protection. Protection from green isn't a very big deal it just slows you down a bit. rotection from blue is very bad. Sabretooth Nishoba is a very dangerous card against this deck and you must counter it at all costs. There is one type of U/G tempo that can deal with it though. U/G/R tempo has a touch of burn it it to either kill your opponent or wipe out opposing creatures. Here's the deck:

4 blurred mongoose
4 kavu titan
4 gaea's skyfolk
4 mystic snake

4 temporal spring
4 Fire/Ice 4 repulse
4 Urza's rage 4 fact or fiction

4 yavimaya coast
4 shivan reef
4 shivan oasis
6 forest
6 island

Finally the last version of the deck is the U/G/B. This is probably the slowest deck but it is also the most controllish. It wins with Spiritmonger and with the few small creatures that it contains. This deck is also played in type 2, differently but the base of the deck is almost the same. You just sit there countering/bouncing everything they throw at you. Then plop down a spiritmonger and watch them squirm. Here's the decklist:

4 blurred mongoose
2 spirit monger 4 mystic snake

4 temporal spring
4 recoil 4 repulse
4 pernicious deed
4 fact or fiction
2 restock
2 life death

there are many different mana bases for this one so I will let you pick your own.

Life/Death can be especially useful in this deck, reviving a lost creature from fact or fiction or returning some spells and reusing them. With Tempo. Spring and Restock, you can make your opponent skip multiple draw steps!

Anyways, that's all for now. I hope you enjoyed reading my article. Thanks for your time.
