Journey back to Hamburg, Germany in the late 30's - where teenagers rebel from the dangerous world that surrounds them by embracing a forbidden new style of music. This music becomes their escape and in some cases, their salvation. It's only a matter of time before the world comes crumbling down around them and two young friends have to make decisions that will change their lives forever. The musical begins in an underground joint known as THE RHYTHM CLUB. The band blares hot swing tunes as young couples dance the night away. In the midst of the crowd are two teenage "swing boys", Jacob Beck and Adam Gernstein. Jake and Adam live and breathe for everything American, from swing music down to the latest slang. They decide to put together their own band in hopes of getting out of Germany for good. Jake finds a beautiful young classical singer named Petra Wolff and with the help of his friends, he teaches Petra to cultivate "that Harlem sound". After considering the risks of joining a band that plays illegal music, Petra agrees to become their singer.
As the band gains momentum, the world spirals into a darker and more dangerous place. Adam's father is taken away, Jacob is forced to join the local Hitler Youth chapter and Petra's mother warns her against being seen with Adam because he is Jewish. News of the band's success at The Rhythm Club quickly spreads and Jake is introduced to a man known as "the booker." The man agrees to "book" the band in New York. However, there is only one small problem: Adam won't be allowed to go because he is Jewish. Jake is faced with the most difficult decision of his young life. Will he take the only opportunity he'll ever get to become a famous bandleader, or will he sacrifice everything in order to save his friend's life? Chad Beguelin and Matthew Sklar's THE RHYTHM CLUB - an unforgettable story of friendship, sacrifice and love.
