Mr. Atens Classroom Newsletter November, 2004
It is amazing to think about, but we only have six full weeks left before Christmas break. There is so much that we need to cover before then, and I know the students and I will keep working diligently as we prepare for the second half of the year.
Accelerated Math
READING COUNTS
We have been working almost everyday on our Accelerated Math skills. Every student is progressing through this program on an individual level, and Im pleased with the level of success. I would like to congratulate the first student that has mastered every objective in the 4th grade library.

Congratulations!!!!
Alex J.

Alex J. has passed all 146 objectives in the 4th grade library, and he is now working on 5th grade objectives. Way to go, Alex!
We had 71% of the students reach their October RC goal of 45 points. This is down a little from last month. Please help me encourage your child to make the necessary gains for November and the upcoming months. I would like to congratulate the following student for her accomplishment this past month.

Remember: Novembers goal is 60 points.

It is crucial for all 4th grade students to have their multiplication facts memorized. Please continue to challenge your child to see if they can become even faster.
Family Night
Important Dates
Have You Seen Me?
Please remember that Family Night is this Saturday, November 6.  My best friend of PA is getting married this weekend, and unfortunately I wont be able to make it to Family Night, but please make plans to attend. I know your children will have a great time.
Nov. 6 Family Night
Nov. 11 No School Veterans Day
Nov. 24 26 No School Thanksgiving
Parents, please have your child search at home and in their backpacks looking for any of our classroom books. Since the start of school, there are over 30 books that have been checked out and not returned. My name should be on the inside cover.
Reading Goals
HAPPY
THANKSGIVING
I am going to try something new with each child and their independent reading. Starting today, I will conference with each student, allowing them to establish a basic goal for the number of RC points they would like to obtain over the next 6 weeks until Christmas break. They will also establish a challenge goal, one that is even more difficult to reach. Once these goals are established, we will sign the paper and send it home for a parent to sign.

After three weeks, I will conference again with each child to check each childs progress. Two things might occur after the 6 weeks. First, every child reaching their basic goal will receive a grade of 95 and an extra 30 minutes of free time. Second, every child reaching their challenge goal will receive a grade of 105 and will be invited to an ice cream sundae party, along with the 30 extra minutes of free time.
