| Math Facts in a Flash | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Im very excited to tell you about this program. Weve had it in the classroom since the beginning of school, but with only one computer it was difficult for the students to take tests on their math facts and their RC books at the same time. Mr. Curtis has repaired an old computer that now enables the students to take both types of tests throughout the day and I believe we will start seeing positive results in their fluency with the basic math facts. The program starts with the addition facts and works through subtraction, multiplication, and division. They are given 40 problems that they need finish under two minutes and score a 100% in order to move on to the next level. They can take as many tests as they would like to take each day. I have developed a chart that will keep track of their daily progress. Each Monday, I will briefly conference with each student to discuss his or her goals for the week. Please feel free to encourage and to study with your child. If you would like, I can even print off flash cards that will match the level your child is on. Just let me know. Also, please ask your child about how well they are doing each week. |

| Mrs. Mayberry and I are both putting a renewed interest in the handwriting and spelling ability of our students. With the new scoring rubric for the 4th grade writing test, conventions will take a more prominent role than before. Therefore, we must press upon all the students the need to write neatly with few spelling errors. Now is the time to improve. We will continue, to the best of our ability, to work hard in preparing every child for the writing test in March. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
