December Newsletter - 2003
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was a nice break and now we have just over 10 days before our next extended break. However, in the mean time, we will continue with our reading and math as the second marking period comes to a close. We will also try to cover the main idea in writing.
Reading Counts
Spelling
Bee
Once again, I am very pleased to announce that we have 100% of the class that has met their November RC goal. The students have been working hard trying to keep up with the workload and I am extremely proud of every student and their performance so far this year.
A special congratulations to the following students for their accomplishments this past month.

Please remind your child that by December 18, they will need to have 70 points. There are only 6 students that have under 70 points right now, but with all the excitement this time of year brings, this month is the most difficult to maintain a steady progress in reading. Please help me encourage your child.
Over the next two weeks, the 4th grade students will be given the opportunity to represent our class in the school Spelling Bee. We will have two 4th grade representatives. Good Luck!

Math Facts in a Flash
Gift Exchange
I will be spending home a letter asking permission for each student to draw names for our gift exchange. A boy will be drawing the name of another boy while the girls will be drawing the name of another girl. A limit of $5.00 on the gift is highly recommended.
I am delighted with the success that every student has displayed with their math facts over the past month. Our class average has jumped up 6 levels. This is an incredible accomplishment. I only hope that as the students continue to pass more levels moving into the more difficult math facts, they will only accept this as a challenge to study all the more.
Completing Homework Each Night
I have challenged the students with an extra incentive for completing their homework each night. I have started keeping track of the number of days in a row every student in the class can come in with their homework finished and ready to turn in. I expect homework to be completed each night and almost on a daily basis, someone does not complete it for whatever reason. I want to raise the standard and help every student become more aware of their role in being responsible. The students will receive nothing extra for the first ten days in a row, but every day after the tenth they will receive a special treat.
