Golden Age

Contemporary sci-fi in the style of the "Pulp Thirties"

6th July: News regarding payment

Yes, payment... Golden Age has now debentured a new policy: For every story published, we will pay an anthology of science fiction short stories of the editor's choice to the author, or make a donation of 2 pounds to a charity of the editor's choice (most likely Shelter, which helps homeless people in the UK).

Issue 1: Editorial

This first issue we have some pretty excellent work. The Tunnel is my personal favourite, Ooloowoo and Overtime have a delicious ambiguity, and Which Came First is science fiction with a Lovecraftian/19th-century feel.

Recently I donated a novel to Project Gutenberg. Their goal is to archive out-of-copyright and donated texts (ie, books, periodicals, etc). They have so far over 2600 texts in their database, and the goal is to make all of these texts available, free, to people. In other words, it is an electronic library, and Michael Hart does an excellent job of running it.

Last of all, I'm pleased to announce that I will be paying for stories used in the current issue, and issue 2. Either a book, or a donation to charity.

Introduction

Readers of Isaac Asimov's many works will be familiar with the anthology he edited, "Before the Golden Age", aswell as "Mammoth Book of Golden Age Science Fiction" and "Mammoth Book of Classic science fiction" both of which he also co-edited along with Martin H.Greenberg and Charles G.Waugh.

Having read "Before the Golden Age", to put it simply I wanted more. But no science-fiction magazine of the 1990's would stoop so low as to publish sci-fi of a style that was popular in the 1930's. So I decided to start my own magazine, called "Golden Age".

Here are 4 submissions I have received, from a variety of people, and the start of a 14-part serial I have drafted, the first chapter of "Pete Plebbian and the Space-Crystals". I hope you enjoy the stories, and I also hope you enjoy my handiwork!!
