                 Enlisted at age 19 as a private August 18, 1861,
                 transfered to Company C, Sept. 14, 1861,   
                 appointed Corporal March 1, 1863. Died Dec. 31,
                 1863 at Chattanooga, Tenn. of chronic diarrhea.
                  At the Battle of Stone's River, eight balls passed 
                  through his clothes without injury. He was twice
                  captured, but succeeded in making his escapes.
