Chapter 8

What I had experienced in Jarred's mind, I still haven't been able to sort out. I have never been kissed before and I was being raped by this dark demon in Jarred's mind. Did this really happen to someone that Jarred cared about? I have tried to ask him about it, but he closes himself off and walks off alone whenever I bring it up. Whoever that man was in Jarred's nightmare, if I ever get my mind on him, I will make him regret ever hurting anyone like that.

Lancaster paced his office, heat rising in his blood. By all rights, those two rogues should've been back in custody hours ago. It has never taken this long to bring a rogue in. The longer they stayed rogue, the better the chance of their abilities becoming known. He was not going to allow that to happen on his watch. Such a disaster would set back his plans and that he couldn't allow.

He was deciding on which Lieutenant he would have flayed in that event, when his comm buzzed.

"Lancaster, here."

"Sir, there has been a security breach in the Medical Bay."

Medical Bay? The only thing in the Medical Bay at the moment was…

"What is the status of Mr. Jacoby?"

"He's gone, sir. It looks like the rogues freed him. They are currently on Level 7 heading down."

The rogues? In this complex? How did they…

"Get teams down there on the double! I'll notify the acting Security Chief of the situation!"

"Yes, sir," as the comm channel flicked off.

Lancaster stood at his desk for a moment, calming his nerves. How did the rogues get into this secured facility without him knowing about it? He thought he had the security leaked plugged, but it may be more extensive than he thought. Changes need to be made around here, but that will be taken care of after the rogues & Mr. Jacoby is back in custody.

Jarred glanced out a door with a number 8 imprinted on it. Ahead was a hallway that looked clear, though there were several adjoining hallways that would make excellent ambush points. Security had to know they were gone and be on full alert. If that was the case, they don't have much time.

He pulled the door open & slipped through, gun focused down the hallway. Behind him, Sherry followed him through, her sister Terry still over her shoulder. Jarred slid down the hallway, alert for any sign of ambush. Sherry seemed a little impatient and was trying to urge him to go faster. She needed to learn discipline if she was planning on surviving. From what he gathered, the unconscious sister is a Psi, which would be handy right about now. She would be able to warn them of an ambush. Unfortunately, she had been in his head, which is a pretty traumatic place to be. The shock of the experience must've…

Sherry nudged Jarred, snapping Jarred out of his reverie. He hadn't realized he had lost himself in thought. He must focus on the goal. Jarred stopped & closed his eyes while taking a couple of deep breaths. Sherry nudged him again, with a little more force this time. Jarred opened his eyes and gave her a stern scowl, his glowing eyes looking as if they could fire Crimson beams of energy into her. Sherry backed off as Jarred turned his attention ahead of them.

The first hallway approached and Jarred crept up on it, gun at ready. He glanced straight ahead down the hallway and saw no one. He turned his head and glanced around the corner and then quickly pulled his head back. There was one agent in a sniper position in an office down the hall. He silently chuckled as he remembered putting that position into the security manual in case of a situation such as this. Funny that it was now being used against him.

Jarred looked back at Sherry & signaled to her that there was one guard. She just stared back at him with a blank expression and shrugged her shoulders. Jarred sighed, as he once again turned back towards the hallway. Reinforcements were probably heading down the stairs behind them at this very moment to block them off. This guy is suppose to slow them down, while a containment team can get into place & recapture them.

Jarred turned to Sherry and in a low whisper, "On three, you run down the hall and make a right at the next hallway. It's going to be a mad dash from here on out."

Sherry nodded her head as she readied herself. Jarred turned back and held up his hand. He counted one, two, and…

"Three!"

Jarred slid out into the hall in a low crouch, firing shots in the general direction of the office. He noticed the agent ducking down for cover. Sherry ran across the hallway and headed for the next hallway. Jarred rolled out of the hallway & up into a standing position, before following Sherry on down the hall. She made the turn and stopped. Blaster fire erupted as Sherry darted back towards Jarred. Jarred skidded to a halt as he came up to Sherry.

"There's four of them guarding the door at the end of the hall."

That means the complex is on full alert. The sub bay would probably have a full squad guarding it by the time they got there. Particularly since it was two more levels down. They were trapped unless…

"Follow me," he said as he turned back towards the hallway with the sniper.

"We can take them," Sherry said, starting to put her sister down.

"Pick her up or she'll never get out of her," snapped Jarred.

He still couldn't believe he was helping these rogues escape. But then, he couldn't believe that his wife's murderer was working for this organization. If the PCU could condone an action such as that, he wanted no part of it. Though, he knows too much just to let go free. That and he being accused of being a traitor. Might as well do the deed if you are accused of it.

Jarred flung out into the hallway & let loose a couple shots down the hallway, sending the sniper who was coming out to cut them out flying back into the office. Sherry darted down the hallway, her sister hanging limply over her shoulder. Jarred turned to follow her, laying down cover fire as he went. Sherry stopped at the door & tried to open it.

"It's lock!"

Jarred came up to the door & keyed a code into the keypad. The door slid open with a hiss. Four agents rounded the corner firing at them. Jarred snapped off a couple of shots, nailing one in the chest. Sherry entered the dark room hesitantly. Jarred shoved her from the rear & followed her in, snapping his hand out to the door's close button. The lights in the room came up as Jarred went to the keypad on the inside & punched in another code.

"That should hold them for a few minutes."

Sherry looked around the room. More like a warehouse from the looks of it. There were rows & rows of equipment of all sorts. Jarred took Sherry by the arm, causing Sherry to jerk around to look at him.

"This way," as he gestured down one of the rows in the warehouse.

Jarred walked at a hurried pace down the row, with a purpose. Sherry trailed behind him, still stunned by all that had happened in the fifteen minutes since she woke up.

"Better try & wake her up, as she is going to need to be awake for this," as Jarred reached his destination & pulled a box off the shelf.

Sherry put Terry down and began trying to shake her awake. Terry groggily came too, though she had a hard time speaking coherently. Jarred took out a mask from the box and tossed it to Sherry.

"Put this on her face."

Sherry put it on Terry's face as Jarred grabbed two more out of the box.

"What are these?" Sherry asked.

"Breather mask. They will allow us to breathe underwater for a brief period of time. Long enough for us to get to safety I hope," as he tossed another mask to Sherry.

"You hope?" she responded skeptically.

Jarred started down the aisle again as he responded, "The bay is very cold, so we are going to need some insulation as well. Now where are…"

An explosion sounded back from where they came. Jarred started to hurry down the aisle, looking back at where the explosion had came.

"Grab her. We need to hurry."

Sherry picked up Terry & started running after Jarred, who had taken to a healthy sprint as he rounded the corner at the end of the aisle. Sherry followed him around the corner and found Jarred opening a hatch. He opened it, which led to a small room. Sherry stepped through the hatch with Jarred following behind her. He quickly closed the hatch and locked it.

"Get your mask on," he said as he put his own mask on.

Sherry put her mask on as Jarred pushed a button on a control panel in the wall. Immediately, water started to fill the room. Terry awoke with a start as the water first touched her.

"What's going on?" she muttered.

Jarred glanced out the porthole to see the agents rounding the corner and pointing towards the hatch. The water level was at waist height and rising fast, but not fast enough. Jarred pulled away from the porthole as the agents opened fire on the hatch. A stray shot cut through the porthole's transparent polymer facing. Jarred grabbed hold of Terry in one arm, while securing himself to a post with the other.

"Rip the outer door off!"

Sherry went over to the opposite side door and got a grip on it. She started pulling on it with all of her strength. The door started to crack at its hinges as Sherry pulled. An agent stuck his gun through the porthole and fired a couple of shots at Sherry. She staggered a little, but kept pulling.

"Do you know where this door goes," Sherry asked.

Jarred looked at her & stated, "The bay."

Sherry turned & looked at him in disbelief. At that moment the door gave & a wall of water shot into the room. Jarred grabbed Terry and held on to her as the water blasted into them. Sherry, taken by surprise, slammed into the door with the broken porthole. The room quickly filled with water, with water spilling out the porthole into the warehouse.

Jarred released himself from the pole and with Terry in tow, started swimming out the now open door. Sherry, recovering her senses, followed them, swimming as if she was a fish. She caught up with Jarred & Terry and grabbed them, one in each arm. She then swam, dragging both of them behind, faster than either Jarred or Terry ever could.

The man in black and silver strode up to the group of agents trying to fit a piece of metal over the porthole, in an attempt to stop the water from flooding into the warehouse. The agents looked at him, fear filling their faces as he approached.

"What happened here?" he spoke in a calm, yet cold voice.

One agent stepped forward, his voice quivering as he responded.

"Sir, one of the girls ripped the airlock door off its hinges causing the bay to flood the airlock. We had shot out the viewport trying to get them, and water is spilling into the warehouse. Repair crews are on their way, and the guard teams in the sub bay have been notified and are in pursuit."

The black & silver man glanced at the water spreading along the floor up to the four agents trying to push a piece of metal over the cannon of water shooting out the porthole. He had noticed that the warehouse door had been blown open, so if this door gave way, there was noting to stop the bay from flooding this level of the complex. He pulled out a comm.

"This is the Security Chief. I need a forcefield projector on level 8, section 3 ASAP."

"Roger," responded a voice over the comm channel.

"Help is on the way," he stated as he turned to exit the warehouse.

Very clever using the Stonewall girl's strength to pull the door off. He now had to divert personnel to repair the damage done or a good portion of the complex could end up underwater. He hadn't given Jarred enough credit and had underestimated him. He'll have to watch for that. In the meantime, he had to ascertain how those girls got in and freed him. He hated having an unsolved mystery on his hands.

He stopped for a moment. He raised his left arm & triggered the wrist knife to pop out. He pulled back his arm and punched the wall with his fist, his knife plunging into the wall. He pulled out and retracted the knife and walked on, leaving a gash in the wall as a reminder of his passing.

Te and his men walked into the parking garage. His men immediately went to two black vans parked near the door. Lieutenant Anglin was following his troops to the van when Te stopped him.

"Lieutenant, with me."

The Lieutenant nodded, signaled his Sergeant, and followed Te over to the Limousine that was parked nearby. Te's driver got out of the car and opened the back door. Te walked over, nodded his head at his driver, and before the eye could really register it, grabbed and snapped his driver's neck. The driver fell listlessly to the ground.

"Lieutenant, put him into the trunk and then drive me to the airport."

The Lieutenant nodded as he picked up the fallen body and carried it to the trunk. Te settled into the backseat and glanced down at the screen in the back. A listing of all his phone calls registered on the screen. He glanced through them. A message from Liz asking if he wanted to have dinner with her in Vegas. She was in Vegas inspecting the Covert Ops Training Facility. Perhaps dinner in Vegas would be a welcome break to his dealings here.

Then another message caught his eye. Maybe dinner might have to wait after all. He sighed as he pulled out his comm and dialed in a phone number.

"I got your message. You said you needed to meet with me."

He waited a few seconds as the voice on the other end responded.

"You know where to meet me at in Chinatown. Be there in a half an hour."

Lieutenant Anglin got into the car & started it.

"There has been a change in plan. Drive me to Chinatown and then requisition me a new driver. My old one got a little scrambled in the head and was no longer reliable."

"Yes, sir," responded Anglin as the car pulled out of the garage.

"What is the status on our escapees?"

"It seems that they tore off the door to the Level 8 airlock and the warehouse down there is taking water."

Te looked up and raised an eyebrow.

"An interesting gambit. I'm impressed."

"Yes, sir," replied Anglin.

Te turned and looked out the window towards the bay. Somewhere out in that water was his hope for the future. He sighed and turned his attention back to his other messages and solving the problems of the present.
