Chapter 7

I had a sense of urgency that I couldn't explain. There was a part of me that was telling me that if I didn't hurry, it would be too late. Sherry was in trouble that I knew. What kind of trouble, I couldn't say. I was only hoping I would be in time, though a part of me feared I was already too late.

-Terry Stonewall

March 14th, 2000

The black limousine slid down Bay Street, through the outer edges of Fisherman's Wharf, heading towards the Embarcadero and the Deerdon Technologies building. In the back sat two individuals in two entirely different states of mind. Te Dee was calm and relaxed, taking what was happening in stride, as if it was an everyday occurrence. But then, he lived in a world where things were out of the ordinary. The other, Terry was anxious and agitated, as her foot taped nervously over & over on the floor.

"Can we go any faster," Terry impatiently asked.

"We can only go so fast in San Francisco…"

Terry reached out with her Telekinesis again, gripping Te by the throat.

"My sister is in trouble! I need to help her…quickly!"

She released him again, with him once again massaging his throat.

"Yes, you have made that quite clear…numerous times already."

Terry turned to look out her window, watching the numerous tourists out visiting the Fisherman's Wharf area. How their lives were so normal. How her life use to be. How her sister's life use to be. Why them?

"Why us," she muttered under her breath.

"Because Fate deemed you worthy. Fate is a cruel mistress."

Terry turned to him again, rage flashing in her eyes.

"What do you know of my fate! How can you know!"

Te shook his head, "My dear, Fate hasn't been kind to me as well. I too have longed to return to normal life. But, when you know what I know. Have seen what I have seen. Normal life is no longer possible, as the ignorance of what is going on around you is no longer possible. Whether you fully realize it or not, you are aware of the larger world around you, and you can never ignore that world again."

"So what do I do?" she asked absently.

"You really have two options. Submit to the PCU or live a fugitive life on the run. It's really your choice."

The limo turned into the Deerdon Technologies parking garage. Terry looked out the window, to see the tourist disappear, leaving the dark parking garage of a dark world she had no desire to be apart of, but had no choice of being apart of. The limo pulled to a stop in front of a door. Te looked over at her.

"I can get you in & I can lead you to your sister, but getting out will be a lot trickier. But, Mr. Rockwell told me to help you and it is important to him that you be free. But, before I put myself on the line, I need to know, where do you stand?"

Terry looked up at him in surprise. "What do you mean?"

"I need to know if your heart will truly be into being free. For, if it is not, we will surely fail."

Terry looked at Te for a long moment, his eyes seeming to pierce into her, looking right at her soul. For a long moment, she wondered if it would be better to surrender & accept control over her life by the PCU. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. But, she realized that once under control, she might not be able to break free again if she didn't like it. They seemed to know what they were doing. It was just luck & inside interference by this man before her that allowed her to remain free so far. And did she really trust this man before her.

And then, she made up her mind. She turned her gaze to the driver of the limo, focused her power on him, & gave him a couple of commands. His mind was easy to manipulate. Unlike the man sitting before her.

"How do we proceed?"

"I'm going to get out & type in a code into the security keypad in that door. When I give you the signal, you need to get through the door as fast as you can, as I can only disable the security camera for a few moments."

Te reached for the door handle, but Terry stopped him.

"Remember, if I can see you, I can still hurt you."

Te nodded his head as he opened the door to the Limousine. He walked over to the keypad and punched in a code. The door slid open as he signaled over to Terry. Terry darted out of the Limo and through the door into a small elevator lobby. The walls were metallic & Terry could see her reflection in all the walls, though it was slightly distorted. Te calmly stepped into the room as the door closed behind him. He punched in another code into the keypad at the elevator door & the doors slid open, revealing a black walled elevator car.

"Ladies first," as he gestured into the elevator.

Terry shoved him into the elevator with a slight telekinetic push, while following behind him.

"You first. I insist."

Te punched the button for S5 and the elevator doors closed, followed by the elevator gently starting to descend.

"Do you have to be so rough, Miss Stonewall. I have been helping you."

"I don't trust you. A little reminder on who is in charge here is good for you."

Te nodded his head in agreement.

"Where are we going?" Terry asked inquisitively.

"Medical Bay. That's where she would be."

"Why would she be in the Medical Bay?"

"You ask a lot of questions, young lady."

Terry once more grabbed him with her telekinetic abilities.

"It's why I did well in school."

Sifu, grasping his throat, gasped, "This…is…getting…tiresome."

Terry released him once more.

"I'm conditioning you to behave."

Te shook his head.

"Negative Reinforcement only works in the short-term."

The elevator slowed to a stop.

"I only need you to behave for the short-term," was Terry's response.

The doors opened up to reveal a hallway in front of them.

"Which way?"

"To the right. It will be the second door on the left."

Terry gestured to the door. "After you."

Te stepped out into the hallway & made a right down the hall, followed closely by Terry. Terry, despite her bravado, was quite nervous. She was in the heart of enemy territory, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to go terribly wrong. Nothing has really gone her way since she got her abilities. Once again, she wished she had never gotten these powers and was at home living in ignorance.

Te reached the keypad in front of the Medical Bay door. He punched a code into the keypad and the door slid open. Terry shoved Te through the door with a telekinetic push & followed behind him.

The room they entered was a large; brightly lit room, with several beds along a wall. Each bed was fully equipped with all the necessary life support equipment as well as industrial strength restraints. Lying on the bed closest to them was the longhaired warrior from the night before. He was naked from the waist up, with bruises lining his abdomen. He was unconscious, and she could feel his mind more clearly. He was dreaming. No, not a dream…a nightmare.

Her attention shifted to the bed next to him. There, lying in the same outfit she had last seen her in, was her sister Sherry. She too was unconscious. Terry reached out to her sister with her mind & gently pushed her to wake up.

"Sherry," she spoke.

Sherry's eyes fluttered open at the sound of her name.

"Terry," she responded groggily.

"Sherry, you're alright!" Terry exclaimed as she hugged her sister.

Sherry smiled as she responded, "I would hug you back, but I seem to be a little restrained."

"Oh, I'm sorry," as she stepped back & focused her Telekinetic might on the restraint, only to find it would not budge.

"Well…" Sherry stated impatiently.

"It's not working."

"Excuse me, Miss Stonewall," Te interjected as he walked past Terry. He punched a code into the bed and the restraint released on its own.

"This restraints are designed to restrain the strongest individuals we know of, & there are some pretty strong Paranormals out there."

Terry turned crimson from embarrassment. She was the one who usually thought things out & not jump to conclusions & here she was acting impulsively, trying to show off her powers for her sister.

Sherry sat up and said, "Who is this guy?" She then took in her surroundings for the first time and a second question came to her mind. "And where are we?"

"He's…"and Terry went blank as she came to a realization. "…I never caught your name?"

"No time. We need to get out of here before they realize we are here," Te calmly stated.

Sherry pulled herself up to a sitting position.

"Give me a second. I'm starting to get my wind."

Terry nodded as she turned her attention to the unconscious man in the next bed. His mind was easier to read at this moment, as if he seemed to be drained and unable to resist. His rage & his pain were more pronounced than ever. She could feel it clearly, as if she herself was feeling it. She was intrigued & wanted to know what caused this. She reached out to his mind & felt the turmoil in his head. The battle between darkness and light that was consuming his soul. She reached deeper and deeper and deeper still.

And then she was gone.

"Ok, ready to get out of here," Sherry stated with purpose.

"We must hurry before they realize we are here," Te calmly stated.

Sherry glanced over at Terry. Terry was standing at the foot of the bed next to her, staring blankly at the man lying there.

"Yo Terry," Sherry stated as she tapped her on the shoulder. Terry didn't respond to her at all.

Te, who had been casually observing this, moved closer to examine her. Terry's eyes were wide open, not blinking at all, & focused solely on the man lying in bed, the man Te knew as Jarred Jacoby, or Silent Death. Sherry started tapping her vigorously, as she continued to try and get her sister's attention.

"I would stop that if I were you."

Sherry looked over at Te, ready to give him a piece of her mind, but upon laying eyes on him, stopped. She felt he was right & that she should follow his instructions.

"What's happening to her?" she asked.

"I've seen this happen before. She has gone inside."

"Where?"

Te gestured over to the bed. Sherry looked at the bed & recognized the man she had fought in Macys. He looked restless, even unconscious. His face seemed sad, yet angry at the same time. Sherry hoped that her sister was all right in there.

Terry stood in a dark bedroom, with torn drapes in the windows, and a ghostly green hue in the air. The bed in the middle was a simple queen-sized bed, with rips in the sheets. The bed looked to have been used; though there was bloodstains on the sheets. At the foot of the bed was a man, in his mid-twenties, with short black hair. He wore a white gi with a black belt. He stared intently on the bed in front of him.

Terry took a step towards the bed and the man turned his head towards her, his opal eyes burrowing into her. Those beautiful opal eyes thought Terry. So expressive, so full of life.

"You don't belong here," he stated plainly.

"Where am I?" Terry asked.

"If you don't leave, he’ll get you. I don't know how you got here in the first place."

Terry reached for the man.

"Who would get me?"

A black gloved hand grabbed Terry's shoulders and spun her around. Standing before her was a big man, wearing an all-black nightsuit. His face was hooded, though he did wear a crimson visor. The figure was shrouded in darkness, though she saw the metallic glint on a blade protruding from his left fist.

"Hello, pretty thing." The figure stated in a cold, evil voice.

"Leave her alone!" shouted the man in the white gi.

The figure turned to him, & Terry could almost make out an evil & cruel smile on the dark face of her attacker.

"You can't stop me. You can never stop me," the evil figure hissed.

The figure grabbed Terry & threw her onto the bed, the figure jumping on top of her. For the first time, Terry noticed that she wasn't wearing her normal clothes, but was wearing a nice blue summer dress, with flowers on it. Terry struggled against the figure, but the figure was much too strong for her.

"Stop it!" shouted the man in the white gi.

Terry continued to struggle, as the man roughly fondled her breast through her dress. Terry tried to use her Telekinesis on the figure, but it wasn't working. She tried to reach out with her mind, but she couldn't feel a mind there. In fact, she couldn't feel any of her powers. She was totally and completely helpless to stop this attacker.

"STOP IT!" the man in the white gi, shouted once again.

"Make me," hissed the figure.

The figure drew his knife up & slashed it down the middle of Terry's body, ripping the dress off her. She was still pinned to the bed by his other hand, his grip too strong for her to break.

"Not again," the man said, his eyes filling with tears.

The figure once again roughly grabbed one of Terry's breasts, causing Terry to wince.

"You like this, like me devouring you while your husband watches."

Husband? I'm not married to anyone, Terry thought. She tried to catch a glance at the man in the white gi, and saw that the white gi was gone. His face was reddening with anger, as scars grew out of his face. His hair grew down to below his shoulders as his beautiful opal eyes gave way to cold and angry glowing red eyes. His gi had been replaced by a black costume, with metallic shoulderpads with Japanese Kanji symbols on it. How did she know it was Japanese Kanji? The symbols formed two words: Silent Death.

"NOT AGAIN!" he shouted, as he drew two swords from their scabbards.

The figure turned to face him and blocked his attack with ease, knocking Silent Death to the floor. Terry took this moment to strike, punching the figure in the groin as he sat on her. He turned towards her again, the visor gone leaving a pair of evil, hollow eyes, white holes in a body of darkness. Terry cringed as the figure drew back its blade and stabbed it right in her gut.

She let out a long bloodcurdling scream.

And the figure smiled.

Te looked into Terry's blank eyes, which stared straight at Silent Death, never wavering and never blinking.

"I wish Liz or Lawrence were here. They are more experienced in these situations than me."

Sherry stood there, watching Te work. She was concerned for her sister, even angry about what had happened; yet there was a strange calm over her. She felt that she could trust this man, no matter what.

"What happened to her?"

Te looked up at Sherry, noticing she was just standing there.

"I would guess that her mind was sucked into…"

Terry screamed at the top of her lungs, causing Sherry & Te to clasp their ears. She then collapsed to the floor. Te immediately went to the ground to check her out. Sherry just stood there, helpless. She didn't know what to do, yet she felt everything was in good hands.

"She's alive, but unconscious. Something must have happened that ejected her out of his mind. Here, give me a hand."

Sherry went over & helped Te lift Terry off the floor. Te looked Sherry directly in the eye & stated, "You will need to carry her out of here."

Sherry nodded her head in agreement.

"What are you doing?"

Te & Sherry turned to see that the man lying on the bed was awake.

"Mr. Jacoby I presume. My boss, Mr. Rockwell, has told me a lot about you."

Jarred looked at him with a stunned glare.

"Why are you helping two Paranormals escape?"

Te turned away from Jarred, starting to walk for the door.

"We don't have time for twenty questions. That scream is bound to draw Security's attention."

"Then release me. I can help you."

Te turned around, looking Jarred straight in the eye.

"Why should the San Francisco Security Chief want to help us escape?"

Jarred looked into Te's eyes & stated, "Because I'm dead if I stay here & I would've failed."

Te studied him for a moment, looking to see if he can be trusted.

"Bring him along…" a weak voice, said from behind Te.

He turned around to see Terry's eyes barely open looking at him, with a cold stern look that told him she was serious, even in her weakened condition. Te turned around and punched a code into the keypad, & Jarred's restraints popped open. Jarred sat up and took in the motley crew that was before him. A political agent, probably a normal with some combat training, and two powerful, yet inexperienced girls. It was a wonder they hadn't been caught yet.

"We need to get down to sub bay and steal a couple of small craft."

"I was going to suggest we take the elevator back…"

The door opened and two agents stepped in with rifles to bear. One took aim at Sherry, who was still carrying her sister. Te spun & leapt towards Sherry, shoving her out of the way. The agent fired, hitting Te square in the back, & he fell to the ground. The other raised his rifle up towards Jarred, but he was already in motion, leaping off the bed towards his assailant. He kicked the rifle out of the agent's hand, while Sherry put Terry down on the ground. The first agent turned his rifle towards Jarred, but Jarred planted a sidekick into the agent's stomach that sent him reeling a couple of steps. The now disarmed agent hit Jarred from the back, causing him to go down to one knee.

He went to pick up his rifle, when Sherry jumped at him, & gave him a hard punch to the head, knocking him out. She turned to the other agent, who was lifting his rifle towards her. She started to move towards him, when Jarred gave him a swift punch to his groin, causing him to keel over onto his knees. Sherry followed up with a punch to the face, knocking him out.

"We don't have much time. They will have back-up," stated Jarred as he took the top off one of the agents & put it on himself.

Sherry looked over at Te, who was lying on the ground, weak, & concern filled her. He looked up at her and said, "I will be fine. Leave me. I can do you more good here than out there with you."

Jarred picked up one of the rifles & checked it.

"Ready?"

Sherry nodded, picked up her now unconscious sister, & followed Jarred out the door.

Te waited a few minutes on the ground when the reinforcements arrived.

"Are you alright, sir?"

Te sat up & brushed off his suit.

"My suit has seen better days. What is their status?"

The front soldier, Lt. Anglin, stood at full attention as he reported, "They are currently making their way to the Sub Bay. Lancaster is still unaware that they are escaping, though we won't be able to keep that from him for much longer."

Te nodded as he started for the door.

"Grab Janson & Gellardi. I want us out of here before Lancaster knows I was here."

"Yes, sir," Anglin responded before turning and starting to give instructions to his men.

Te walked out of the Medical Bay smiling. Everything was proceeding according to plan.
