August
It's the summer - this of course means that after a week or so of blazing hot sun, we are due storms, rain, fog and probably hailstones! there is nothing typical about 'TYPICAL' british weather. . .expect the unexpected
Sunday 5th I was ill last week (you may have noticed the little 'imood' indicator on the front page.....well, one of you did!) with a throat infection type thing, but a visit to my lovely homoeopath friend sorted me out.
I have another couple of house-sitting gigs booked...one is looking after two ickle kittens - and I guess I should be paying them to do that one!
I think that I might be going away in September for a long weekend type trip - jetting off to the alps with my two lovely sisters to join our parents on their trip to Megeve! I just didn't fancy working for my birthday, especially as last year I was in New Zealand with my wonderful family! I'll keep you posted....
Thursday 9th I have that Friday feeling on Thursday! Mum is off on camp, so we have cut down on kids for the week - so I have worked a whole lot LESS and I have the day off tomorrow...and I have earnt the same as I would in a normal week!!! It's great! A four day week AND 50% less work load can't be bad :) Well, it's raining - typical british summer - so I guess my 6month old charge and I will be having fun indoors somewhere today.....I'm going to nick off though - it's 9.10am and she'll be here in a few minutes
Thursday pm: Clare and Emma have come to visit with baby jack! I am giving them a demonstration of how I write in HTML - see how I spoil my guests!!!!
Today was cool - I waved at Smeg and Pete from my trusty web-cam. Much fun was had by all.... if you do happen to 'stop by' for a look be sure to sign the guestbook or send me email so that I know who I'm waving at!
Friday 10th So, did I mention I have the day off..... I have spent it wisely - getting up late, eating "beaucoup du pain au chocolat" and hanging around on the web-cam (hello Lisa!).
Things I am suppossed to have been doing on my day off:
Things that I have actually been doing with my day off:
I know which list I prefer!
Wednesday 15th We have good weather - what's wrong?
Thursday 16th I'm following a special detox eating thing - no wheat/meat/dairy/sugar(and therefore no choc!) for 28 days. Hmmm. I'm 3 days in and all's fine - the soya yogurt and rice pasta are actually tasting pretty good!
Sunday 19th This time last year I was on my way around the world - and was in Bangkok with Smeg and A at the top of an amazing hotel.... a whole blooming year ago!
Monday 20th I've finished at the magic cottage - and Harry and Lupin were very well behaved (even if they thought that I shouldn't sleep past 7am on Sunday morning!) I am a week into the vegan style detox - and all's well, it's the healthiest that I've eaten for years! I'm feeling quite chipper too - I should really change my imood thing (see front page). There's just two and a half weeks before my holiday!
Wednesday 22nd Phew it was a warm one today! I chilled out (in a totally exhausting kind of way) by taking FOUR (yes, count them) children to the "open air museum" at Singleton - we called it "wacky wednesday" and they were allowed to do whatever they wanted! They were under strict instructions to tell me if I got at all boring or 'grown up'....it was very funny! (over the past few weeks we have had "magic mondays" and "wacky wednesdays" - they remind me to have fun too...)
Emily came round yesterday and we had our customary chinese take-away...with a difference(just stir fried veg, chinese chips and home cooked brown rice). It tasted great though - thanks to all the MSG!
Friday 24th Very hot day - hoards of people heading south to the beach over the next few days - I shall be merrily hiding at home as I don't really fancy getting stuck in all the traffic! Met Essi and Lisa for coffee this afternoon(my first, and only, caffine for 2 weeks). They came back home with me and admired my organic veg garden - Essi took photos...then I joined in - while Lisa looked on...(how did she stop herself from laughing?) Lisa and I arranged our 2nd annual christmas window shopping expedition for the first Friday in December!
Saturday 25th IT IS SO HOT! I am keeping well out of the sun by updating these pages. I am in jenny heaven with my oscillating fan 'doing it's thing'! I am looking forward to the BBQ later - although it will be an extreme test of will power. I'm going to take some jen-made vegetable keebabs and rice. yum
SUNday 26th Went to 3 friends' birthday BBQ last night (Andrew, Mark and Paul) I took quorn fillets because I ran out of time to make anything - I was still running around Sainsburys at 8.45pm! I am prepared today though as we are supposed to be having a BBQ, but the weather has deserted us. It is raining a little too heavily at the moment - it has 2 hours to stop before everyone arrives! Dad has prepared his legendry curried rice and pasta salads - I have made vegetable kebabs. My webcam is set to "raindrop watch" and you can see exactly how dark this bank holiday sky is. . . I just feel 'oh so' sorry for those beach mad fools who have clogged up the motorways in a rush to the coast, while I sit here happily typing away with Hawaiian music merrily playing on the stereo - oh happy day :o)
Friday 31st Phew! what a week - thankgod it's over. We have been busy, busy, busy... too many darn babies by half. On tuesday, wednesday and thursday when one baby was happy the other would be crying, and vice versa - thankfully I kept my sense of humour about it all!
My fish "Mulder" expired yesterday - he is officially an ex-fish. I won't tell you the details of what one 13month old did when she found the dead fish and his tank of water by the back door awaiting burial (needless to say she had to have a change of clothes and the clean up operation took 20 minutes as the water spread all over the utility room floor!!!!)(thank goodness the tank had a fixed lid and the fish didn't get out!!!!)
Ma and Pa are preparing to skip the country - they are in the middle of packing and sorting and tidying and and and. . . I am keeping well out of their way. I've packed a bag for them to take for me ~ heavy stuff like jeans, boots and books. They leave at some very anti-social hour tomorrow morning - I have told them that they needn't wake me to say au revoir. Caz, Smeg and I will be seeing them in 5 days anyway.
