New Zerg Strategies
The Drop-Fake -PhantomX
This Strategy works best against Terran, but is also effective against
Protoss or Zerg. I suggest not using this against Zerg or Protoss
although. This strategy works on any map also.
Here is the basic B/O
Overlord at 8/9 Control
Drone 9/9
Overlord is Done Build 2 Drones
Build Hatchery anywhere you wish
Drone
Spawning Pool
2 Drones
Extractor
When the Pool finishes you should be able 2 build 6 zerglings then when your
2nd hatchery finishes you should be able to build 2 more giving
you a total of 8. These lings can be used for scouting if
you not already found your opponent with your overlord, or
preventing a rush. Also when your extractor finishes send
3 or 4 drones immediately to start harvesting gas. As soon as u have
enough upgrade to lair and of course don't stop building guys and scouting.
You can either choose now 2 expand, tech up, or you can build hydras.
Hydras
If you decide to go Hydras remember to upgrade and if you are playing BW go
for Lurkers. Lurkers are good against Terran Infantry if used
correctly and backed up with lings or hydras. You should
also have Overlord Speed and Be able 2 carry with
overlords. Always be sure to know what your opponent is doing
and scout as often as possible.
Expand
If you choose 2 expand I would suggest also teaching
overlord speed to watch your cliff incase of a turbo
newbie attack ( tank on cliff ). If you do however go for
an early expansion get as much gas as you can and tech up 2 guardians
as quick as possible ( against terran especially ) Never stop building
and scouting of course. Tech Up If
you climb up the tech tree, be sure to always know what your opponent has
and is doing. Lurkers and Guardians work great against terran,
Mutalisks and Zerglings, or Pure Hydras are good against
zerg, and with Protoss all units are good but Psionic storm could be a threat
and micro management is very important.
The Drop-Fake
This is where the strategy gets its name, this is very difficult to accomplish
but it is a killer and has won me many games. This is how it goes, Bring
around 6-8 Speedy overlords and make sure your opponent sees them to make
him think your gonna drop. However you should hide Mutalisks at the corner
of his base ( near workers ) While your opponent goes 2 cover the drop Guardians/Devourers
should rip him apart. An alternative is to actually put units
and drop with guardians backing it up, attack with guardians before you drop.
This strategy should be used around mid-game and should not be gone for A.S.A.P,
Scouting is the most important part and always have a lot of drones! You
should always have nonstop unit production if possible, sunkens colonies are
an option but if you don't feel there needed don't build them.
Good Luck and Have Fun
