"Mike? Do you feel good about what we're doing?" asked Jen. Mike smiled
and said "In what sense?"
Jen turned around to give him a playful punch in the
face. "Not like that! I mean about doing this now that Peter knows. I think it
was better off when he didn't know the truth."
"Yeah, but that would still be wronging him in a way."
"That's true
but don't you think it's too soon for us to be doing this?"
"So then now I'll
have to take all of this back?"
"No, I still want it. I mean--"
"Peter
says he's okay with us being together so don't worry about it anymore," Mike
said and started kissing Jen.
The next day, Mike
was sitting on the couch watching tv while Davy and Micky were sitting by the
kitchen table trying to figure out where Peter went early that morning.
"Well we know he's not with Jen," said Micky. "Maybe he went to the
store," Davy said.
"Three days in a row?"
"You never know."
Mike turned around on the couch to face the kitchen.
"What are you guys talking about?" he asked.
"Notice how Peter's acting?" Micky asked. "Not really," answered Mike.
"He's always gone though."
"Or maybe you're always gone," said Davy. "You're the one going with
Jen now. I think he wants her back."
"Look, Peter told Jen that it was okay for her to see me. She's lost
her feelings for him right now," he said as he turned off the tv set. "I'm going
over to Jen's," he said and went out the door. Micky and Davy looked at each
other. "We've got a love triangle going on here," said Micky. Davy nods in
agreement again.
Mike is now sitting
on Jen's couch in her living room. Jen comes out of her room and sees Mike. "How
did you get in here?" she asked. "You gave me the key yesterday," he said and
stood up.
"I did? Was I drunk or something?"
"It was after we--"
"Say no
more. It's coming back now."
They came together for a hug and Mike pulled her
down on the couch.
"You know what Mike?" Jen asked as he started kissing her neck. "I
think I'm falling in love with you again!"
"Good! You know that I've always
been in love with you Jen. I'm so glad that you're mine again."
"Peter gave
me all this time to straighten out and I think I know how I feel now. Mike...I
love you!"
"I love you too Jen."
They start to kiss and don't even notice that Peter
is standing by the door watching the whole thing. Jen takes her lips off of
Mike's.
"Peter! Hi! What are you doing here?" she asked. "I came to return your
key and get some stuff I left here from last time," answered Peter. Mike looked
at him.
"Hi Pete," said Mike with a short smile. "Mike," was Peter's response.
"Peter I hope you're not mad at me," said Jen.
"Who me? Mad? Don't be silly!" Peter said. "So you're okay?" asked Jen.
"Okay? My girlfriend is now saying I love you to another man and you ask me if
I'm okay?" yelled Peter.
Jen rose to her feet. "But Peter--"
Peter headed for the door and said "I'll see you guys later." He leaves
the house and Jen sits back down on the couch.
"Here. I'll make you feel better!" Mike picks Jen up and carries her to
her room.
Back at home, Peter
was in his room lying on the bed. Micky knocks on the door and asks if Peter was
okay. No answer from inside. Micky sighed. "I know that you probably like Mike a
little less now but you've got me and Davy here."
The door opens. "You're right," said Peter. "You
don't hate Mike, do you?" asked Davy. "No, I don't hate him," answered Peter. "I
just don't feel like talking to anybody right now."
"I know what you need," said Micky as he grabbed Peter by the arm and
dragged him out of the room. "Micky what are you doing?" asked Peter. "You're
locking all your anger up inside," said Micky as he pushed Peter onto the
bandstand. "You need to let it all out."
"What are you suggesting he do?" asked Davy. Micky went over to his
drum set and sat in the seat. "Sing," he said.
"Sing?" wondered Peter. "About what?" Micky picked up his drumsticks.
"Come on big Peter. There's gotta be a song out there that expresses how you're
feeling right now."
"Not really," said Peter as he set up a microphone stand in front of
him.
"Well it ain't 'Last Train To
Clarksville' that's for sure!" joked Davy. "Come on. Any song, you
sing it. You start it off and Davy and I will join in," said Micky."I got one,"
said Peter as he picked up a guitar. He started playing the opening chords to
"She" and Davy quickly picked up a tambourine. He and Micky sang back up while
Peter sang lead. After the song, Peter turned around and smiled at Micky.
"Aha! A smile! Mission accomplished," said Micky. "Yeah but I still
feel kinda bad about it," said Peter. "Got another one?" asked Davy. Peter
nodded and started the chords to "I Won't Be The Same Without Her."
"Life is hard for me to touch now..." Peter sang.
The Monkeemobile pulled up on the driveway and Jen
and Mike got out. "Hey, you hear that?" asked Jen as she stood by the front
door. Mike put his hand on the doorknob. "Sounds like they're rehearsing," he
said and opened the door.
"When she left..." sang Peter and saw Jen and Mike walk through the
door. They stood and watched them perform.
"...Something inside of me died..."
"Hey, what's going on?" Jen asked Mike. "I don't know. Let's just go
upstairs." He led her to the stairs and they went to Mike's room.
"...There's no end to my sorrow..."
Upstairs, Mike and Jen were
sitting on the bed. "I think he's letting his emotions out through the song,"
said Jen. "Yup, I bet it was Micky's idea," said Mike and smiled at Jen. They
started to make out right there on the bed. Jen listened to what was going on
downstairs.
Peter kinda sounds good on this song, she thought. He's really getting
into it.
She listened to the words as if Peter was speaking
to her.
"It isn't easy to forget her, and the way it used to be...She changed
my life the day I met her...And I won't be the same without her, no I won't be
the same without her by my side..."
At the end of the song...
"So, Pete. How do you feel now?" asked Micky. "Better. Hey guys? Could
we do "She" again? I kinda liked singing it," said Peter.
"Sure Peter" said Davy and Micky. Peter started the song again. At
the first note, Jen recognized the song instantly.
Oh he just had to do that one didn't he? she thought. Is
he trying to make me feel sorry for him or something? It'll probably work...
"...She told me that she loved me...and like a fool I believed her from the
start..."
