Day Trip to Ikegami Honmonji 10/13/02
Today we went to a Nichiren Buddhist Temple that was having a huge festival to commemorate the death of the sect's founder.  Dale went while he was working at a temple in Chiba in 2000, so this year he brought me and our Aussie friends Kathleen and Andrew!
(Left) The street in Ikegami was filled with vendors - mmmm cheap street food!
(Right) Jenr and Dale on the steps to the temple.
On the left, Dale is standing in front of a pillar near the entrance to the temple.  Andrew *loves* the chocolate-covered bananas like the little girl is eating - not!  Above, at the top of the hill, the temple looked pretty just as the sun was setting!
The graves in the temple's cemetery were very elaborate - many had one or 2 gates leading up to the monuments.  Right is the pagoda.
ZOORASIA! - 10/14/02
We went to Zoorasia in Yokohama with our friend Carin and her daughter Jadine.
The 4 of us at the entrance to the zoo.  It was warm and sunny that day - the perfect day for hanging out at the zoo!
Of all the breeds of penguins in the world, this zoo had the Humboldt penguins - just to torture Dale!  (If you don't understand, e-mail him and ask about his Animal Behavior class right before graduation!)
