Our Trip to China

Dale and I took our honeymoon to Beijing from March 21-26.  It is less than 4 hours by flight from Tokyo!  I had been to China a few times, but it was Dale's first trip.  While we were there, the weather was great, and we saw a lot of famous sites!
The Confucian temple is pretty run-down, but it is right across the street from the Lama temple.  Here are Jenr and Confucius.
Dale at the Yonghegong Lama Temple.  This is the most important temple for Tibetan Buddhism outside Tibet itself.
March 23 - Great Wall tour.  Here is Jenr at the top of the hill.
Next we headed over to the Temple of Heaven.  This is us outside the largest temple building, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest.  Afterwards, we went to a market for some shopping.
Here are various shots of us at the Wall.  The tour also included a trip to the Chang Ming Tomb.  Below, Dale is rubbing the dragon's head to bring wealth upon our family.
Right: Dale outside the Chang emperor's memorial building.  Below: Jenr and Jane (Qian Jianjian), my language partner from Qingdao!
March 24 we visited Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and Jingshan Park.  Left - Part 3 of the "Dale is Taller Than" series.  Dale is taller than Mao Zedong. Below: In front of the Great Hall of the People and the Monument to the People's Heroes.
Below: The Forbidden City
Above: Dale in the Forbidden City garden.  Left: Jenr and the moat outside the palace.  Below: Jenr and Dale at Jingshan Park, where we got a view of the entire palace complex.
At night we saw the Chinese acrobats.  It was an amazing performance!  The next day, we went to some of the old palaces.  Below, Dale at the New Summer Palace.
Mmmmm... Paddle Pops!  (My former study buddies will understand!)
Jenr at Beijing University's West Gate.  This is where I studied for a while.
Next stop - Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan).  This is the labyrinth near the palace ruins.  Left: Dale beat me to the center even though I've done this 3 other times!  Below: Jenr in the maze.  The guy in the right corner is totally cheating!
Here is Dale at the ruins.  Below: We didn't know toilets got stars.  Dale assures us that each of these 4-star toilets are, in fact, 4-star worthy.
Dale's Observations about China:

At the Great Wall:  "This place looks like Idaho - not-impressive mountains, everything's dead and brown, a bunch of funny-looking people..."

About Beijing:  "I figured out what that smell is!  This place smells like a milkhouse."
