About Me...

Welcome to my very first website!  I am a first grade teacher at Topanga Elementary School. This is my third year teaching and I absolutely love it.  I got both my bachelor's degree and my teaching credential at California State University Northridge, and am now going back to CSUN again to get my Master's degree in Elementary Education.  Everything seems to be falling right into place, and I can't wait to see where my life leads next.

My Teaching Philosophy....

I believe that although children learn differently, all children can learn. To ensure that all students do learn, lessons must be taught using all teaching modalities: visual, auditory, and tactile.   All children need to become engaged, and have a safe learning environment.  I believe this can be done by following a constructivist teaching style. Constructivist teaching is based on the belief that learning should build upon knowledge that a student already has, and that learning is more effective when a student is actively involved in the construction of knowledge, rather than when he/she is passively listening to a lecture.  Cooperative groups, manipulatives, and realia are a few examples of how this can be achieved.  Last, but certainly not least, teachers need to work together as a team with parents, and together we can make difference in our children's lives.

EED 602...

EED 602 is an advanced technology class.  It is geared to help teachers include technology in the classroom.   You can find all of the assignments I did for this class under the Portfolio link.  My favorite assignment (aside from designing this website) is the power point presentation.   You will also find a link to my e-mail, CSUN, and the school I work at, Topanga Elementary.  I hope you enjoy my site!
