Christopher Patton and Family
Christopher Patton, Sr. was one of the early Floyd County settlers.  He was a prominent citizen of the town of Prestonsburg and appears on the 1810 tax list of Prestonsburg.

According to family legend, one of the Christopher Pattons was part Cherokee (probably Christopher, Jr.)  and stood 7' tall.

Christopher, Sr.'s fisrt wife's name was Jane and she was the mother of Christopher, Jr.  I suspect the Indian blood came from her line.  Also, Christopher, Jr.'s wife was reputed to have been Cherokee.  I suspect that Christopher, Jr. and wife Paulina were both half breeds.  There is no doubt that their daughter Anna had a lot of Indian blood for it is quite evident in her picture.

Anna Patton Clifton had some strange customs; when she became upset and mad at someone, she would build a huge fire in the fireplace and then when enough ashes had accumulated, she would take a long stick, stir in the ashes and chat a spell over adversary.

On October 18, 1862, Christopher, James, Henry and William Patton enlisted in the Confederate ARmy at Whitesburg, KY.  According to Confederate records they deserted on October 24, 1862.  (probably fought a battle and then went home)  October 20, 1861 at Prestonsburg, KY, John Vaughn Patton joined the Confederate Army.
