Lora (Martin) and Monroe Gayheart
This is an article that was written by my aunt Rosemary Clifton Grigsby and submitted to the 1994 Knott Co, KY History and Families Book.
Lora, was born to Lindsey and Aletha (Martin) Martin of Ball Branch, 29 July 1892.  Her paternal grandparents were John Henderson Martin and Polly (Higgins) Martin.  Her maternal grandparents were Richard and Winnie (Sizemore) Martin.
John Henderson Martin was the son of James and Milly (Martin) Martin.  Richard Martin was the son of Joel and Rebecca (Fletcher) Martin (daughter of Jacob).  Winnie Sizemore was the daughter of George "Golden Hawk" Sizemore and Aletha (Goodman) Richardson.
Lora married Monroe Gayheart and had one son, Gardie.  Monroe died when Gardie was approximately fifteen months old, and Lora returned to the family farm on Ball Branch.  She never remarried, but spent the rest of her life caring for others.
Although Lora was the biological mother of one son, she raised five others: Her nephews, Ralph Martin and Bill Richmond, and her niece, Virginia Richmond, also her great nephew, Franklin "Boof" Clifton, and her great niece Rosemary Clifton.
Lora was a special lady, loved by all who knew her, and referred to as Aunt Larie by the children in her neighborhood, for she always found time to spend with a child.
Her presence, her teachings, her love and her influence will always be remembered by those who knew her.  She died 4 January 1981.
