He became quite wealthy, owned many slaves was a politician and became very popular. He moved to Floyd County where he had the distinction of representing his first county in Legislature for 16 years. He was sent for his first term at the youthful age of 21, the youngest to serve throughout the history of the nation. Later he served many years on Congress.
