Hugh Moore that died in 1760/1761 Halifax Co, VA is not a son of Charles & Elizabeth Moore per Alan Lerwick.

Hugh Moore (Moor) first shows up in the records of Halifax Co. on April 7, 1748 when he purchases 400 acres on Birch's creek. He also purchases another 400 acres on Birch's Creek on Nov 21, 1748 and another 400 acres on Gt. Toby's Creek on Nov 29, 1748. His brother John Moore purchased 400 acres on Birch's Creek on Dec 3, 1750 and 390 acres on the north fork of Mirey Creek on Dec 7, 1751. Hugh Moore is all through the Plea Books for Halifax Co. Virginia. he is first seen in Plea Book 0 pg. 1. He is seen from May 1752 when be becomes a Commissioner of the Peace (Constable) untill he writes his will on July 9, 1760. Below are only a few things Hugh Moore did in his life. May Court 1752 - Commissioner of The Peace. May Court 1752 - Appointed for Tithes. Starting at Mirey Creek to the Dan river. 1753 - Appointed and Qualified as a Captain of a Foot Company with the Virginia Militia. June 6, 1753 - Appointed as a Justice of the Peace. Nov 18, 1756 - Appointed and accepted Commission as Sheriff for the County of Halifax. Will of Hugh Moore Will Book O pg. 100 Dated: July 9, 1760 Halifax Co. Virginia In the Name of God Amen. The Ninth Day of July 1760. I Hugh Moore of the County of Halifax, being very sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is so appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. In that is to say principally and firsy of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend unto the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of Executor within named but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God and as (?) such worldly (?) wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give and bequeath to Martha my dearly beloved wife, the plantation on where I now dwell as long as she remains my widow. Likewise a Negro woman named susan with her increase. From this present time during her life likewise four cows and calves and also is likewise five work horses and five mares. Also I give to my well beloved sons John and Alexander the plantation on where I now dwell to be equally divided in quanity, that is to say my son John shall have the plantation. Also I order to my dear brother John a piece of land joining the said plantation above mentioned beginning at the River Banks and extending up to Fredrick Miller's line (?) paying the sum of Twenty pounds for the said. Also I bequeath unto my son John one Negro man named (?) and one Negro boy named Dick. Also I bequeath unto my son Alexander two Negro boys, one named Stephen and the other named Jeffrey. Also I will unto my daughter Mary one tract of land on Great Toby joining to Byrd's line containing Three Hundred and Ninety Five Acres also Forty pounds in money, also all such cattle that are mentioned in her name at present. I will unto my daughter Anne one tract of land on Birch's creek containing Forty Five Acres and Forty pounds in money. It is also my will that there shall be a right made to Jos. terry of four Hundred Acres lying on Birch's creek whereon he now dwelleth. I also will unto my beloved wife and my son john all such sums of money that should come from the estate to be equally divided (The rest of the will is torn away) Note. I have not been able to find anything on Anne Moore per Frances Laleman.

His Will was written 21 Nov 1848 Caswell Co, NC; probated in 1850 in both Caswell Co, NC and Halifax Co, VA per Alan Lerwick.

Caswell County Will Book R, 1855, pg. 248 Dated: Nov 21, 1848 Alexander Moore of Halifax County, Virginia - Will - written - 21 Nov 1848. Family graveyard to be enclosed with brick or stone. Son Jerry Moore to have land where he lives and to cultivate testator's land adj Tobey Creek also some slaves for his life. Daughter Patsey Bailey to reside in house he purchased of Pugh where she lives plus 10 acres land adj Edwards Stone house. Her part excluded from control of her husband. After marriage of grandaughter Sally Cook daughter of daughter Patsy Bailey by her first husband, testator loaned her and her husband Alexander Moore (son of Byrd) two slaves. said grandaughter now deceased and her part to her children. Servant Ben age 45 to be employed for use of estate and after age 65 to be employed for himself and supported by estate with 1 acre land given on Tobey Creek and a cabin built for him. Judge of Superior Court of Halifax County to name trustee who must keep up plantation and slaves at labor and treat them kindly; some may be hired out. At death of son Jerry and daughter Patsy Bailey 1/2 of estate to go to descendents of daughter Patsy with grandson Abner Cook a person of unsound mind being supported and to descendants of grandaughter Sally Cook who married Alexander Moore; the remaining 1/2 of estate of son Jerry's son Richard Moore and his daughters Jane and Margaret and to children of son Jerry Moore by his present wife. Exec to be named by Judge of Court. Wit: Rufus Marable, John Chaney Codicil - 20 Nov 1848 Jerry Moore to have $200 annually. Great grandaughter Sally Moore daughter of Alexander Moore to have furniture and silver tableware. Wit: Benj Marable, John Chaney Will presented to Halifax County, Virginia Court 5 April 1850 by Rufus Stamps and wife et al whereupon et al dissented. Jury empaneled and verdict was this was a true will and was proven on oaths of Benjamin Marable and John Chaney and ordered recorded 17 June 1850. Woodson Hughs appointed exec and he bonded for $30,000 with Wm. Nelson and James Yourel securities. Certified copy recd proved in Caswell County. Charles Hooper appointed adm of said Alex Moore. John MOORE

The word is not "Interstate" for having died without a Will. The word is - "Intestate." John Moore was born in Brunswick Co, VA per Alan Lerwick.

John Moore purchased 66 acres on Toby's Creek on May 11, 1772. 1778 - 1st Lieutenant to Capt. Charles Wall. 1796 - Died Intestate without a will. Note.. After John's death a nasty Court Battle over his estate started. Note... The following papers were found in boxes at the Halifax Co. Courthouse by Lawrence Martin who was putting these forgotten documents on microfilm. June Court 1796 Halifax Co. Frances Moore is appointed guardian in general to Burgison Moore, Tarlton Moore, Robert Moore and Maryan Moore orphans of John Moore dec'd. She giving security whereupon she together with Alexander Moore, Davis Bates and Fleming Wall. Her securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of Fifty Thousand Dollars conditioned according to law for that purpose. Oct 16, 1796 The Commonwealth of Virginia. Summoned Armistead Moore, Richard E. Booker and his wife Elizabeth, Bird Moore, Tarlton Moore, Mary Ann Moore, and Robert Moore, heirs of John Moore dec'd into court. They were ordered to give Frances, the widow of John Moore, a certain tract of land on Mirey Creek containing One Hundred and Seven acres. They were ordered to do so quietly and at once. Signed: G. Carington Nov Court 1796 Halifax Co. Frances Moore widow of John Moore dec'd complaining of Richard E. Booker and his wife Elizabeth. Mar 30, 1797 Halifax Co. - Richard E. Booker and his wife Elizabeth who are the guardians of Byrd Moore and Robert Moore, administrator of John Moore dec'd are being sued by Armistead Moore, Tarlton Moore (minor) who sues by Alexander Moore his guardian and Maranne Moore (minor) who sues by Alexander Moore and Charles Wall her trustees. Case No# 1798-11 Halifax Co. Va John Moore dec'd interstate leaving a vast estate with 19 slaves. His children petition the court for these slaves. Mary Ann Moore is noted as a minor but it is scratched out. (Leaving one to believe she has turned 21.) Jan 4, 1798 - Halifax Co. Agreeable to an order of the Court of Halifax County bearing date Nov 1798, we the undersigned Commissioners have on this 4th day of January in the year 1798, met at the haome of John Moore dec'd in the obediance to the above court order and allotted and divided the slaves of the said dec'd - among his several legates as followith to wit; Armstead Moore - 3 slaves - Valuation $197.00 Maryan Moore - 4 slaves Valuation $197.10 Bird Moore - 4 slaves Valuation $167.10 Robert Moore - 4 slaves Valuation $ 190.00 Tarlton Moore - 4 slaves Valuation $172.10 Given under our hand the day and date above written. Thomas Walkins Benjamin Hobron George Marable Jan 4, 1798 Halifax Co. Richard E. Booker the administrator of John Moore dec'd having intermarry with Elizabeth Moore daughter of John Moore dec'd and having received estate by way of advancement in the life of said dec'd did not choose to account for what he had of dec'd estate or bring it to hotchpot and consented not to be considered in the division. Given under our hands this 4th day of January 1798. Thomas Walkins Benj. Hobron George Marable Nov 1, 1799 Halifax Co. Richard E. Booker the administrator of John Moore dec'd is sueing Charles F. Wall adm. of Frances Moore dec'd for the land that was given to her on Oct 16, 1796 containing One Hundred and Seven Acres. Aug 1801 Halifax Co. Burgison Moore and Mary Ann Moore sued Richard E. Booker, who was still the guardian of Robert Moore (minor) for the estate he had not accounted for, and to account for money he had not accounted for. Oct Court 1802 Halifax Co.
