1FamilySearch International Genealogical Index v 5.0. ( Internet site: http://www.familysearch.org "Latter Day Saints").
"Family Group Record: Husband: Joel Phillips, Birth 1822, Georgia. Marriage May 5, 1844, Clay, Alabama. Wife: Permelia Millie Watts, Birth 1824, Geogia, Marriage May 5, 1844, Clay, Alabama. Father: Jacob Watts Mother: Millie Hollingsworth."
I have copy of original marriage license. They were married Talladega County, Alabama which later back Clay County, Alabama.2Marriage Record Book, Talladega County, AL (Talladega County, AL), Pg. 361.
"Married by Milton Smith."
Joel had to receive consent of his mother to become married. Her mark read, "Frances Phillips." The actual consent was on page 360. That is how we know his mother's first name. Why didn't his father sign? Was he deceased?.
