I have copy of original marriage license. They were married Talladega County, Alabama which later back Clay County, Alabama.

Joel had to receive consent of his mother to become married. Her mark read, "Frances Phillips." The actual consent was on page 360. That is how we know his mother's first name. Why didn't his father sign? Was he deceased?.
The consent was given on May 5, 1844 and the marriage date was May 5, 1844.
