Statement
My work for BBC News Online's On This Day has enabled me to practise the full range of skills I learnt on my Online Journalism MA. Over the past year I have seen the project - and my role within it - evolve from researching and compiling a comprehensive news media database to writing and researching a wide variety of domestic and international news reports and uploading these - and related media - onto the website. I have enjoyed being actively involved in every stage of the process of creating a new website and have contributed ideas about design, production and project management. At all times I have had to work with speed and accuracy, with a keen awareness of media law and ethics and budgetry constraints. I have also helped to build a strong team, which has grown quickly from three to twelve people and I have always been happy to help with any training or explanations needed.

During the course of my employment I have developed a keen business sense and ability to work to targets in a pressurized environment. I have always had an eye on breaking into journalism but I have only recently succumbed to the necessity of costly post-graduate training. Online journalism in particular appeals to me as a frontier profession which combines the creative and technical disciplines of writing and design.
