Christmas 2005 was Rick and my first Christmas together.
It was also my first Christmas in Arkansas. The town of Searcy has light
displays all over town. The biggest is in Berry Hill Park. My pictures aren't
perfect, but they are memories :)
Several of the trees of light
The larger white tree that was cut out of the first picture
A replica of the court house in downtown Searcy
The 'court house' clock tower from inside the structure
A replica of the Rialto Theater which is across the street from the
court house downtown. There were several other replicas of town landmark
buildings, but those pictures didn't come out.
Another of the areas where the town has a light display is Spring Park
which is behind the town's library
The pavilion and light posts are permanent park structures. The tree
on the left isn't .. neither are the stars in all the trees throughout the
park.
A coach and four, er, two
A replica of one of the town's churches
The church steeple complete with bell
You can see more of the stars in the trees behind the church. All the trees
in the park have stars like these plus cascades of lights.
Even the local ice cream company, Yarnell's, gets into the holiday spirit
Our first tree
Our first Christmas tree was kind of, well, I called it our Charlie Brown
tree. Though in the Charlie Brown Christmas special after they put the ornaments
and stuff on it looks full and pretty, ours still looked kind of pathetic.
But, it was free ... one of Judy and Richard's neighbors let us wander around
on his property and cut a tree down ourselves.
It's a tiny cedar tree. Not really a bad tree, really wide... we had
to pull the strings of lights kind of tightly to keep it from blocking the
microwave on the right and the TV on the left. It was just rather thin needle
wise
Because we didn't have many ornaments, I made a bunch myself. Rick's
son Adam got into the spirit of things and made this bell ornament for us.
You can also see, kind of, the Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer Santa ornament
I bought.
A couple of the of the Salt Dough ornaments I made for the tree, and
one of the marble ball ornaments
I also made some of these 'marbelized' ornaments using bleached out
glass ornament balls and acrylic paint.
In the center are what I call "Adam's Stars". When we were shopping for
ornaments for the tree he picked those out. I wasn't overly fond of them in
the store, but he picked them because he liked them, and it's his tree too.
I have to admit that once on the tree with the lights behind them they're
quite pretty. Adam made the silver angel ornament on the left, it's a salt
dough ornament that he completely painted silver. Except for my salt dough
wreath at the bottom, the rest of the ornaments we picked up at either Wal-Mart
or Dollar General.
More of our store bought ornaments. Well, the cat ornament was something
I got from Judy
Our First Christmas Together ornament.
