Back in April a neighbor gave me a smallish plant
for helping her get her clematis trellised. She didn't know what it was as
a bunch of them had been given to her. So I planted it with my Hyacinth Bean
Vine plants and it went to town. Soon it was taking over and choking
out the vines, so I transplanted it to it's own pot. I never got a picture
of it when it was small, but I've taken the following pictures over the course
of May and June.
Taken in May, about 2-3 weeks after transplanting it.
Buds in Early June
The first flower to open ... early June
By mid June there were tons of pretty yellow flowers on it.
Early in July I joined GardenGuides.com
and found a forum board for getting help in identifying plants. I posted
pictures of the flowers and finally got an id on the plant. It's a Double
Sunburst Coreopsis. As of right now though it's all leaves. All the flowers
died back and so I cut the flower stems back. From what I've read on the
plant guides it should flower again before fall. And it's a perennial, so
I can cut it back in the late fall and I'll over winter it at Rick's parent's
with the plants his mom overwinters and should have pretty flowers again
in June.
