Compared to Judy's flowers, mine are rather, well, pathetic. Rick
and I live in a very small apartment, and I can't put plantings in the ground.
So my garden this year consisted of a few potted plants.
My potted Clementis. It was supposed to have purple flowers, but
the plant never bloomed. Judy bought this one for me while I was back east
visiting family. She bought herself one too and like mine, it never bloomed.
They were probably in full flower at the store just weeks before she bought
them. When I got back at the end of April this was barely as tall as the
small wooden trellis that the plant came with. This was taken in mid June.
By the end of July the heat had gotten to it and it now looks like hell.
The rest of my 'garden'. The sunflowers were planted from seed and
are bred for putting in flower pots. The little plastic greenhouse had herb
seeds planted. They never grew. The small pot on the right is basil. It
started in the little plastic greenhouse and has grown pretty well. Unfortunately
about a week ago something ate most of the larger leaves. Probably the grasshoppers.
Closeups of my sunflowers. I had a total of 4 stems in the pot. Each
stem had one large bloom and two smaller blooms. Despite my careful watering
the heat finally got them by the end of July
