TWENTY :        unmasked
you had yanked me
       out from the ground
and slapped a silly dress on me.

you waxed my smile
       and vetoed my dreams.

day after day,
      i fattened with the air
              you expired into me

then, last night, you gutted me like a fish

and left me open and empty
          on the pavement.

i didn't know whether i had been

                      freed
                        or
                     beaten.
