Ecologist
Activity #2
What is special about the structure of the rainforest?
How does this structure affect the ecosystem of the rainforest?
Ecologist Activity #2
All good scientists collaborate with other scientists to share their information and talk about their findings.  Meet with your partner and use your data sheet to answer the following questions.  You do not need to write down the answers to these questions, but you are responsible for talking about the answers to these questions with your ecologist partner.

     1. What kinds of animals did you find at each layer?  Did some layers have certain kinds of animals that the other layers did not?  What layer or layers do birds live in?  What layer or layers do insects live in?  What layer or layers do mammals live in?   What layer or layers do reptiles and amphibians live in?
     2. What plant or tree life did you find at each layer?  Did some layers have certain plant or tree life that the other layers did not?
     3. What did you find out about the amount of light at each layer?  What layer receives the most light?  What layer receives the least light?  Why does this happen?
     4. What special information did you find about the emergent layer?  What special information did you find about the canopy layer?  What special information did you find about the understory?  What special information did you find about the forest floor?
