Utena Tenjou This costume was one of my biggest accomplishments and also one of my most difficult tasks ever. The entire dress was made from pink pleather. The top was designed, using a chinese shirt pattern, and putting in some additional darts. The jacket was then lined with a pink cotton material (to make it a bit cooler to wear) and sewn.
Back to the Studio!
The trim was hand sewn to the jacket, and the epaulets, pockets, buttons, zipper, and triangles were added on. The underskirt was made of a light, sheer teal material and hand-stitche in place. The cuffs were designed and trimmed, and the buttons added. The skirt was made to fit the hoopskirt by altering a skirt pattern, sewing it, and adding a satin waistband. The wig, shoes, and crown were purchased. This is probably one of the hardest costumes that I have ever made (to wear) because the pleather acts like a sauna. It looks wonderful, but the heat is overbearing in the Florida climate. Possible future plans include perhaps remaking this gown in a lighter material, as it weighs 18 pounds!
