Miaka Yuuki
Back to the Studio!
My inspiration for this was Miaka's cute hairstyle! After I had seen the series, I had to do the costume! The costume was originally destined for AFO2 and actually did make it there, amazingly enough!  This was a relatively easy design, but my sewing machine was broken at the time, so it made things a bit more difficult. The jacket was made from a bolo jacket pattern from a dress and jacket set, the vest from a suit pattern, and the skirt from a cheerleader's skirt pattern. The bow was just a rectangle gathered in the center with the button. The vest was hand-stitched and  lined with a deep brown lining and the buttonholes were hand sewn.
After making the vest, I moved on to the skirt. This was pretty easy aside from dealing with having to redo it the first time because I tried to make my own pleats without a pattern. The skirt is very nice to wear and easy to move
in, and it has a zipper and hook and eye closures. Next came the bow, which was also hand-sewn and quite simple to make, just a rectangle with a center gather and a button. The jacket was the final task and even that was easy, even considering the hand-sewing. The jacket is partially lined (the bodice, but not the sleeves) and very comfortable. After wearing the costume to AFO2, I was able to get a new sewing machine (a birthday gift!) and re-stitch the inconsistancies in the hand sewing. This made the shape of the vest and skirt considerably better and improved the overall look of the costume. Thankfully, this one did not require a wig or hair
extensions! Several aspects of the costume were a lot simpler to purchase, such as the blouse, socks, and shoes. This has been worn to several events, but it may be a few more before I decide to retire it! I also found the greatest wings for the costume at a feather place online, so I decided to add to the overall look by getting them!
Total cost: (Including wings) 75.00
Tme spent: About 35 hours because of the hand sewing!
