| When I began creating the Utena Duelist's uniform, my friend, Val started watching the Utena series, too. Knowing her sweet personality, it was an easy choice to cast her as my Anthy! Materials used in this one were scarlet, white, and teal baroque satin, 7 yards of white 5/8" ribbon, 1 yard of yellow ribbon, gold lame, 4 10-yard spools of 1/8" teal ribbon, wooden circles and triangles, interfacing, 2 paper mache balls, gold cord, 6 white rose-shaped buttons, snaps, and a 7" zipper. This costume was also constructed using a chinese shirt pattern, but not using the sleeves, and again leaving the sides and back open to create the 'flaps'. The skirt was made with an expanded skirt pattern for a two-piece formal dress. The cuffs and pockets were created freehand. The trim was hand sewn, as were all the other details. The hardest part of this costume was the epaulets...it took several weeks of | |||||||||||

| desperately searching for something appropriate. It always seemed that they would be the wrong shape or something like that. The mache balls were found in Michael's crafts after a week-long hunt for costume parts. When they were painted, I cut the ribbon and attatched it to the balls with pins and superglue. The brooch was painted and attatched to a sticky-back brooch pin. After having disastrous results with hair-spraying on both of our Utena costumes, we decided to purchase a wig for our Anthy. Unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to find or style a wig to her short style, so we stuck with the long purple wig. The crown was found during halloween at Wal-Mart and the petticoats were purchased in thrift stores. This one got sold on | ![]() |
