mmmm, technoooology

i had to buy a new portable cd-player. i've had to resign to the fact that the one gene gave me is probably stolen, or misplaced so much it'll never be found again. sigh. so anyway. i bought a new one.

i even shelled out just a bit extra for a cd-r/rw compatible mp3 thingy. because looking at my most recent additions it makes, well, sense. heh. so now i get to be all confused on how to work it.

well, the mp3 thing, at least. from looking in the little booklet that came with the player, it shows that it can play something like 200 (it looks like 67 files per directory) mp3's off a cd. okay.

the only way to fit a lot of mp3's onto a cd is to burn them as data and not music.. right? or am i insane? i've never burned any type of cd before, so what do i know, i'm just figuring it out as i go along.

so i spent a couple of hours loading 160+ mp3's onto one cd, divided over 3 directories. it burns and finishes, i try it in my player and.. 'disc error' .. argh! yet it's recognized just fine in my computer's cd-rom (making it not a total failure, at least-- a cd with mp3's for my computer is better than a coaster).

so now i've got no clue how to proceed. at least if it was a complete failure, i could blame me, but since it half-worked.. i'm not sure what the hell i'm doing wrong. the booklet is laughably brief as far as instructions go (though makes sure to tell me the warranty does not count if an "act of god" happens. oh. drats.) .. frrr.

if anybody has any assistance to offer, like if they have a similar player and can tell me exactly how they go about burning cd's that are recognised and can hold a loooot of mp3's, please e-mail me. i would really appreciate it.

i mean, i have a COLD. i need the pity. :(

i'm not really online yet--i've taken a well-deserved week off from the office, making me scarce to post here and e-mail. i'll be back to it shortly. go drool over anja's new design instead. those yellow blonde hair swirls! wah! cin cin. 7:53 p.m.
