An Observation by Michael Howard Staines.
(veiw as a word document)

In the summer of 1998, I remember the time like yesterday, I had been working in a career of wholesale management for a small bakery where I was responsible for managing the outside wholesale department. After seven years, I finally got an opportunity at a major bakery distributor. It had a healthy salary and commission. But after six weeks the hours were too strenuous, and I was dismissed.

There I sat in my living room, depressed, 27, no job, my dream of being an wholesale distributor for a big company was over. I knew very well I wasn't going to go back to a smaller position. After consulting with a friend, I decided I would make the hike back to school and acquire some computer skills. My first initiative was to get into something related to computers, however I didn't know what.

I applied at a private Computer College, (Corporate Communication College). After a lecture and a brief interview, I was assigned to Jennifer as my counselor. Jennifer was the person who inspired me and showed me how my past and present skills were so directly related to the program I was gong to enroll in. My original desire was a need for computer skills, and I thought I would probably need them wherever I ended up, not really knowing where I would stand in the job market after training.

But Jennifer went over the job market with me and even looked at job ads that were management and sales related and how they were integrated into today's technology. This was exactly what I could picture myself doing. I realized that I didn't have to change my old career, I just had to add on to it. Jennifer was the one who showed me the light. She was with me 100% and listened to my desires, needs and aspiration, then she took all the pieces and put them together, painting a career picture for me. It was her motivating influence that gave me the desire and drive to see my new and promising dream come true.

I am now 30 years old, and I'm writing this from my computer as I sit in my office at Able Copiers Ltd. My Title Is Service Contract Specialist; I'm responsible for database management and a whole slew of sales activities.
