1. Irene, what led you to write this book? What experiences made you aware of the need for this book? How have your experiences as a grandmother of twelve influenced your writing?
2. What audience did you have in mind while you were researching and writing this book? Can parents and people who are not yet grandparents benefit from this book by learning how to prepare for this role? How?
3. The title of your book is Grandparenting Redefined. What exactly do you mean by 'redefined'? How has grandparenting changed in the past twenty years?
4. As the number of babies born with drug-addictions or aids continues to increase, what can grandparents do when this tragedy occurs in their own family? How can grandparents effectively handle such challenges?
5. How do grandparenting skills differ from parenting skills? What do you believe are the expectations of today's grandparents from their children and grandchildren? Are they reasonable? How can grandparents realistically face these expectations?
6. What role do grandparents have when their married children's lives are riddled with emotional turmoil that affects the grandchildren? How can grandparents best relate to their grandchildren during a divorce, or in a dysfunctional family?
7. You talk about how grandparents can build supportive relationships with their grandchildren. What do they do when their son or daughter ignores or even tries to stop their efforts? How can grandparents build trust relationships with their grandchildren?
8. In the first chapter there is a quiz to evaluate progress as a grandparent toward becoming a healthy role model. What are some goals grandparents can set to ensure that they leave a legacy of love to their grandchildren?
9. Can you tell us where a struggling grandparent can find help and support?
10. Are there any final thoughts you would like to leave us with the grandparents out there who are struggling in different areas of their grandparenting experience?
