Our Neighbourhood

This is our apartment building.

It's actual address is 11094 Jawan Street, although since no one knows the street names in Doha, it doesn't really matter.

Here is the usually busy Sports Roundabout. It is the intersection closest to us, and so we always direct taxi drivers to the Sports Roundabout, rather than Jawan Street.

You may see know why it's called the sports roundabout. The landmark in the middle of the roundabout has a mosaaic of different sports being played. There are lots of "special" roundabouts in Doha: the Rainbow R/A, thr Oryx R/A, the Coffeepot R/A, the Museum R/A, and, where Al Jazeera's station is located, the TV R/A.

Traffic is nasty in Doha. The minimum posted speed limit is 50 km, but no one drives that slowly! And no one pays heed to the pedestrian crossings, either.
Our Flat

Welcome to 604!

This is what it looks like when you come in: our foyer.

Our kitchen is off to the left, and our half bath is off to the right. Come on in!
This is our kitchen. See our nifty little washer/dryer combination?
These are pictures of the flat before we moved in. Everything was brand new!

This is our living room, now. With OUR stuff in it.

This is our dining room.

Looking back out towards the foyer.

Our bathroom.
This is what our bedroom looked like before we moved in...and below are the "after" pictures! (We still need Martha Stewart, or the crowd from In A Fix, or Nate from Oprah, or ... Mom!)

Since I lived with Peter for 16 years, and then he moved in with David for 2 years, and then he moved in with David and me for 4 months, we figured we might as well call the spare room, "Peter's Room." And we do.
Living In Doha

A traditional cotton dress I bought for 35 QR.

I am going to take the dress to a tailor, and get them to put in an empire waist to make it more flattering, and also to shorten it, just a little. Here's the mock-up.
Holidays

Here are Dave and Leigh decorating Leigh's and Martin's corner for Christmas. They call is "Cheesy Hollow."

This rink is in the middle of the City Center Mall. Look at the specators on all the levels looking down at the game. And the Qatari and Canadian spectators getting into it!

See me? In the crowd? I've got a Newfoundland flag and I am wearing the flag on my t-shirt.

Mary was the referee.

Jonathan Crow was on the Canadian team. We were going for the Qatar team, because all the CNAQ staff were playing on that team. I think the Qataris were confused when we started waving out provincial and Canadian flags whenever QATAR scored on CANADA!
Our Invitation To The Inauguration

The Envelope

The Invitation

Inside it says basically that the Her Highness Sheikha Moeza bint Nasser al Misned will present a plaque of inauguration on 1 December 2005. See this article for further information.

We were not permitted to take pictures during the inauguration, but we did get a picture taken of ourselves, looking all posh.
