Our Hotel

our hotel
Sheraton Doha
This is where we stayed on our first two nights. Welcome to Qatar!

Doha

city center
Pictures taken from the Corniche of the "downtown" area of Doha, taken at sunset on the first day of Eid.

Dave and Me on the Corniche on the first day of Eid.

Eid
This is another picture from the Corniche that I took after the sun went down, during Eid. There were lights everywhere!

the pearl
The Pearl of the Gulf -- at night.

a friday morning
Friday is the Holy Day here. This is the Corniche on a Friday morning.

corniche
Some financial institutions in city center. We aren't allowed to take pictures of government buildings and/or palaces. Enjoy the banks.

Sand Dunes

outside Doha
This is what the desert looks like, on the way to the dunes.

SR at SD
I guess Dave took this one. From L to R: Robert MacIsaac, me, Enid's husband from New Zealand, Enid Richards, Arlene McCann, and Mary Tilley.

arlene
This is our friend Arlene watching one of our Qatari drivers take air out of the tires at the sand dunes.

sand dunes
It's as scary as it looks!

me
ME!

the inland sea
The Inland Sea

saudi
We could see Saudi Arabia. It was getting dark, so I didn't take more pictures, but this is basically the border between Qatar and Saudi.

sunset
The sun goes down quickly here. I'd say it was completely gone less than five minutes after this picture was taken.

Only In Qatar

falcon
This is a falcon. Doesn't he look like a Roman gladiator? These little guys can fetch up to $50 000 USD.

camels
Camels!!!

closeup of a camel
This is what a camel looks like, up close. We have yet to ride them, or to see them race, as they do that in the spring.

spices in the Iranian souq
The Iranian souq, or Souq Waqif, has little shops like this spice shop. Pretty lentils.

Bob in the gold souq
Our friend, Robert, searches for the perfect emerald to have set in a ring for his wife, Ann.
