I've worked in Student Affairs at Elmhurst College and The Illinois Institute of Art-Schaumburg (ILIS). As you probably notice, two totally different types of institutions & student populations. Elmhurst College is a small, private, religiously-affiliated college and ILIS is a small, for profit school for the visual and applied arts. It's been important to me to continue to step outside of the box; to challenge myself, learn something new, and continue to diversify my experiences. I think the diversity of professional experiences makes me a more well-rounded administrator.

Elmhurst College reminded me reminded me of my undergraduate experience in so many ways.  I had the awesome responsibility and opportunity to wear many hats.  Now, don't get me wrong-it certainly was a challenge some times. But the experience really helped me develop as a professional and as a person.

The experience, in so many ways, taught me about myself and provided a solid understanding of what a truly student-centered institution and
Residence Life program were really about. I had a blast and have been trying to capture some of those feelings and experiences with each new institution.

ILIS provided another perspective and an interesting glimpse into the minds of art students. I was inspired by their creativity and enthusiasm for their passion. Students came to school focused on gaining the skills in order to finish in three years and land a lucrative and rewarding job.  It was a good experience as I stepped into the for profit world and had a chance to understand a world that many of my colleagues have not.
