| Afloat Waves crash over my body as thoughts tangle my mind. A knot of fear forms in my stomach leaving me limp and gasping for air. As I rise, the scorching sun violently brings me back to distorted reality. I flow to the foamy outlined shore, but closer the undertow rips me from firm ground. Harsh words are etched in my mind, but the thought of open arms awaiting me comforts the pain. The thought fades from my mind. I become intoxicated by the scent of my burnt coconut skin sprinkled with tropical air. In thought, the tight grip loosens. I become one with the sun. The ocean, like so many rejects me. My body becomes the water, my mind the sphere. Again I sink. My last strength pushes me barely above. In this whirlpool of emotion I lose control while the peaceful world stays far from where I am afloat. |
