CURSOR TUTORIAL

People who visit my Xanga ask me lots of questions about how they too can "pimp out" their site. But there is one question that gets asked more than any other one: Where did you get your cursor? Okay, I'm generally a nice person so I tell people the whole process of getting a cursor that you want for your Xanga, but around the 5th or 6th time, I have to admit that I get tired of it. So in order to spare my sanity and to get people to UNDERSTAND ALL of the process, I went ahead and created this Xanga Cursor Tutorial. It's a step-by-step walk through on how to get a cursor for your site like the Triforce one I have on my Xanga or the cute one I have on this site. Just follow these steps and you can have the cursor you want.

Step 1: Find your cursor.
It's amazing how many sites are out on the internet that provide cursors for you to use for free. If you want a cursor with a flower, for example, go to any search engine such as Google or Yahoo!, type in "flower cursors" as your search term and you'll get about one million sites that have flower cursors free for your use. In order to find my cursors, I just did a search on Google for "Zelda Cursors." Once you find a site with cursors that you like, download the cursor to your computer. Most cursors come in .ZIP files so before you go on to the next step, make sure to extract the file[s] from the folder. Also, please, Please, PLEASE make sure that your cursor ends in the extension .ani or .cur, otherwise it won't work.

Step 2: Upload your cursor.
You need to find a site that allows you to upload and share cursor files. There are probably many sites that let you do this for a fee, but I've found a very reliable and very FREE site that lets you do the same thing: GeoCities. You have a GeoCities account if you have a Yahoo! ID that you use for email, Yahoo! Messenger, Yahoo! Games, etc. If you don't have one, get one because the rest of this step is going to involve using GeoCities seeing as I'm not familiar with any other sites. Log into your GeoCities account and go to the "Easy Upload." Locate your cursor on your computer and upload it. You'll be taken to a page that shows you the files that you've uploaded. You should see something that says "yourcursor.cur." This means you did it right.

Step 3: Put your cursor URL in the code.
Now that most of the "hard work" is done, you can put your cursor URL in the cursor code. The URL of the cursor [assuming that you used GeoCities] is http://www.geocities.com/yourusername/yourcursor.cur. Now all you have to do is take that URL and put it in this code. Please use the command CTRL+C to copy the code:

Step 4: Put your code in your Xanga.
Once you've assembled your code, all that's left to do is to put it in your Xanga. The code goes in your Custom Header area of the Look and Feel section. If you have one of those Xanga "default" headers [the ones with the taglines and what-not], putting this code in the Custom Header area will make it disappear. If you want to keep your header, put your cursor code in the WebStats area. But the cursor won't show up when people visit your Profile area.

Step 5: Marvel at your intelligence.
And you're done! Now was that so hard? I didn't think so.

Now some of you may still be confused [cough, stupid, cough] or you don't want to do all this work [cough, lazy, cough]. Don't worry, your site doesn't have to keep looking like crap. I have taken the liberty of putting a few Zelda cursors here for your using delight. The picture next to the code is the actual size of the cursor. In order to make your site more aesthetically pleasing, I've chosen not to put credit on the cursors [This cursor provided by blah, blah, blah...]. But if I find that these cursors are being redistributed, abused or someone is using them and claiming them as their own, I will delete all the cursors, put the name of the person who ruined it for everyone on this site and you can curse them out all you want. Don't like what you see? TOO BAD! I'm not taking cursor requests! Do all the work yourself to get the exact one that you like. I'm not wasting my storage space and bandwidth all because I don't have a cursor that you like.
If you still don't get it, feel free to email me asking questions.

*Note: According to Typhoon859 [who is REALLY cool. You should visit him and say "Hi."], some if not all cursors can't be seen if you use Firefox. But just because you can't see them doesn't mean the rest of us can't see them.
