| What does success mean to me? Success means to me that someone or somebody is able to over come everything and not give up no matter what happens. In my dictionary success means the degree or measure of succeeding, and favorable or desired outcome; also: the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. What success means to teacher and author Skip Downing is that he feels people should accept personal responsibility, discover self motivation, master self management, and employ interdependence. Also he feels that they should gain self awareness, adopt lifelong learning, develop emotional intelligence and, most important, believe in themselves. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Success is a very important key to a happy life because in ten years I see myself being very successful. I would be a veterinarian. The typical day for me would be to take the kids school and go to work, which I would love very much, then go pick the kids up from school get them washed up and start making dinner for me, my kids and my loving husband. I have a perfect life: I have great kids, and their names are James, who is 8, and Heather, who is 5, and the baby Hunter, who is a yr old. It?s great; I have a loving husband who does anything and everything for me and the three kids. We have two dogs, Roxie and Big Red. They are great too. My husband and I both drive nice BMW?s which we love, and they are safe. We also have a family van so that everybody can ride together. It?s great! I have nothing to complain about, and life is defiantly treating me and my family well. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| In order to achieve this ideal life I will follow Dr. Downings advice, which begins with accepting personal responsibility. Accepting personal responsibility is something that is very important for someone to become a very successful person. The essence of being personally responsible is responding effectively to all life?s opportunities and challenges. Whether your challenge is surviving an arctic blizzard or excelling in college, accepting personal responsibility moves you into cooperation with yourself and with the world. The more we practice the habit of acting from a position of responsibility, the more effective we become as human beings and more successful we become as managers of our lives? said by Joyce Chapman. If I take full responsibility for all my actions, then I can?t blame anyone else for my mistakes. If I take full responsibility for all of my thoughts, then everybody would know what I was thinking. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Creators and victims speak different languages. They might as well be from different plants. Listen carefully to people?s choices of words, especially when they are facing a challenge. You can tell immediately who accepts responsibility and who doesn?t.? The world of self- criticism on the one side and judgment towards others on the other side represents a major part of the dance of life? said by Hal Stone and Sidra Stone. I have an inner conversation with the inner critic, the inner defender, and the inner guide, which, if I use all of these methods, it can really help me discover and master creator language. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Making wise decisions is very important in a young person?s life because if they make the wrong choices it could really mess up their lives. Life is a journey with many crossroads, and everyone requires a choice. Every choice make allows us to manipulate the future. Said by John Luc Picard, in ?Star Trek, the Second Generation?. The wise choice process outline some steps to help one make the right choices in life: what?s mypresent situation? My present situation is that I go to college full time at TNCC. I?m studying to be a veterinarian, because I really love animals. How would I like my situation to be? I would want my situation to be that I finish school and get my degree and start being a veterinarian because that?s my dream. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Successful people discover their dreams. Dreams vault us out of bed in the morning. They provide energy when we run headlong onto an obstacle. Dreams give our lives purpose and meaning. Without dreams we would not have much to look forward to. ?Nothing happens unless first a dream?, said Carl Sandburg. Life has its roles and dreams. Think about roles you have chosen in your life. A life role is an activity to which we regularly devote a large amount of time and energy. For example, you?re presently planning the role of a college student. Which we all know that role can be hard because it?s so stressfully bring a college student. So what helps me get thru the fact that I?m a college student is creating inner motivation. I had no big dream as college freshmen. I lacked a vision of what I wanted to accomplish, and my choices showed it.? Climb high Climb far your goal the sky your aim the stars? said by Steps Williams. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Committing to your dreams. Many people doubt they achieve what they truly want. When a big, exciting dream creeps into their thoughts, they shake their heads.Oh, sure,? they mumble to themselves, ?how am I going to accomplish that dream? A lot of people dont believe in themselves that?s why they need to put every thing into it and don?t give up. From my own experience, there is no question that the speed with which you are able to achieve your goal is directly related to how clearly and how often you are able to visualize your goals? said Charles J.Givens. It?s a good idea to visualize your ideal future. Human beings seek pleasure avoid pain. Use this psychological truth to your benefit. How would I go about visualizing? You need to relax, use present tense, use all five senses and feel the feelings this way will help you be able to visualize your dreams and goals. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Designing a compelling life plan is accomplished by committing to personally motivating dreams, to create destinations for our life?s journey. By choosing purposeful short and long term goals, we continue designing a compelling life plan. Goals are very important. People who don?t realize the importance of goals probably haven?t heard about a study done at Yale University. A researcher first asked members of the Yale class of 1953 if they had a specific, written, long term goal. Only three percent did. That?s why it?s important to have your long term goal written out: that way you can see where you are headed. How to set a goal is real easy. To be effective, a goal needs to have five qualities which are called ?DAPPS. Dated which are effective goals with specific deadlines. Achievable implies that effective goals are realistic. Personal means one?s own effective goals, not someone else?s. Positive goals focus your energy on what you do want rather than on what you don?t want. Specific goals state outcomes in specific, measurable terms. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| I was able to interview my older brother, Travis Phillips, and I asked him how he was able to manage his time in college. He told me that all it takes is to make a schedule of what time you?re going to do your homework and work in the time you?re going to study. He told me that this is very important to manage my time while I?m in school, because a lot of students go to school full time and work full time just like my brother does. It seems to work because now my brother has a degree in tool in dye which he loves to do. He graduated from college three years ago, but now he is back in school because he wants to earn a masters degree which I think is great as long; as he keeps up with the time management then he?ll do just fine because it has already worked for him. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Employing self management tools is a good idea for instance having monthly calendars is a way to stay on track. The first self management tool, a monthly calendar, provides on overview of upcoming commitments, appointments, and assignments. I should use it to record the hours of all schedule classes, works, labs, doctors? appointments, and family responsibilities etc. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Developing self discipline is important. Every semester perfectly capable students abandon their dreams and goals. Distractions constantly tug at our minds, and like a child, the unfocused minds dashes from one distraction to another. To be successful, we must be able to focus our attention in the right place. If focus is self discipline in thought, then persistence is self discipline in action. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| A support network is great to have; that way one can learn from one other. For solving most problems, ten brains are better than one, and twenty hands are better than two. Some people work better together and others. College provides a great place to develop the habit of using of OPB to achieve maximum success. Seek help from one instructors is a powerful quadrant II action that one has pay off handsomely. Your instructors have years of specialized tanning. You?re already paid for their help with one tuition and all one has to do is ask. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Identifying scripts means that once you realize I am off course, I need to figure out how to get back on course. Unfortunately, the forces pulling us off course are ten of just as invisible to us the plant Neptune was to Lerier and his and his fellow observers of outer space. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Understanding emotional intelligence is something that is very important for a student. I know it is hard to accept, but an upset I your life is beneficial in that it tells you that you are off course in some way you need to find your way back to your particular path of clarity once again said by Susan Jeffers. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| I have learned that it best for me, as a student, to stay on the right track and to always try my best in everything I do for college. I know that we have all gotten off track a time or two but its fine as long as we get back on the right track. I?ve learned so much from doing this paper. I have learned how to manage my time for school and how to make a schedule and still be able to have fun as a student. So as long as you have a success in your life there is no reason why you can?t live your dreams when you get older. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
