I think one of my goals in life is to learn words to as many songs as I can possibly put into my head. Unfortunately, I have to work. (Just joking, I like to work). I can't seem to find enough time to spend with my beloved music. I have learned that time is the most important thing in the world. More important than money. If someone doesn't respect your time, then they don't respect you. You can waste your life away argueing, or worrying, or doing a myriad of things that don't do anyone any good, or you can sing. Learn a new song. Sing a song to someone who is having a bad day and make it a little brighter. It may not be the biggest contribution to the world, but it's something that I can give.
I am now in a singing group called Shillelagh Law. The name came from a song called Finnegan's Wake. The idea is THE ONE WITH THE BIGGEST SHILLELAGH MAKES THE LAW. A Shillelagh is a big club or walking stick. We have a web site - go to www.shillelaghlaw.com We have a CD for sale! (we're immortal!!) Just $15 includes shipping and handling. You can order it on the web site. It's called Songs From the Bridge. The Bridge refers to the bridge where the other members of my singing group (and myself, separately) started singing these songs in public at the Renaissance Festival. The songs we sing are mainly Irish and Scottish traditional folk songs, with a few others mixed in. On the CD is: "Finnegan's Wake", "I Never Will Marry", "Follow Me Up to Carlow", "Fhear a Bhata" (English, and Scots Gaelic), "Men of Harlech", "Oh Danny Boy", "Johnny is a Roving Blade", "Greensleeves", and "The Galloglass from Calontir".
Here are some lyrics to some of the songs that I love. If you contact me I will help you find more. It's easy, really. The best crutch I've found is to go to GOOGLE and put in as much of the first line as you can and it will bring up the lyrics for you. I have learned words to several songs that I learned from cassette tapes and CD's years ago by looking them up on the Internet. Some great sites to find the music you are looking for are MudCat Caf and Ceolas. I will try to find the time to add more lyrics to the site as time goes by. If you are looking for something you can't find, contact me! Maybe I can help. You can reach me at [email protected]
