Welcome To The Construction Page of Constructions!!!!!

Untitled

Hello! This page is designed to let all visitors know exactly how what changes were made to my page and why.
GRAPHICS

The first construction that was made was to delete the intitial graphic (timewarp) that was inserted into my page to see how to insert graphics. I deleted that graphic and added the name "Jennifer" graphic that appears on my first page. Inserting this graphic was relatively easy, I downloaded it from another page, changed the color format around, centered it, and downloaded it into my file manager!

The next graphic that was added that some may overlook, is the University of Miami school logo. This is considered a graphic. This also serves as a link to the U of M (Miami) webpage, so it serves two purposes. Like the name logo, this graphic was easy to come by. It was downloaded off of the U of M page and then into my filemanager.

The most important graphic that I feel makes my page come alive is on the 'writing assignments' page. Here, visitors can receive a digitally scanned picture of the WRITING YOUR OWN TECHNOLOGY assignment for English 328. This picture offers up three seperate views of the finished product, so needless to say, it may take a little longer to load than the others, but I feel that all three views enhance the product, so I decided to keep all three rather than limit it to just one picture.

The last graphic that I added was an 'e-mail' me icon. This is a picture of an envelope/mailbox that moves. It is appealing to the eye and by selecting the icon, visitors will be directly linked to my personal web address to comment or quetion anything on the site.

COLOR

The second thing that I did to my page was adding color. I am a big fan of drastic color schemes, so I added color to each and every page of my site. I tried to color coordinate my pages with the theme. For example, my University of Miami page is green and orange. These are the school colors in Miami.

I added color to all of my pages including this one. Some viewers may feel that the colors are too much, but I tried my best to have color as well as retain the readability of the text. I feel that the different colors on each seperate part of my page brings a sense of navigation and uniqueness to my page, so I chose to leave it colorful! The colors were added by inserting the color codes for background color, link text color, and body text.

FORMAT

The formatting of my page was stricly html. I used html to edit, view and update every part of my site. This style of formatting is not the most efficient for time saving, but it gives the programmer a chance to view all aspects, codes and breaks in the formatting, so I chose to stick with it. The layout format of this page has two options. Visitors can view my page with or without framing. Framing allows for the visitor to view all pages and links within the home page. Without framing, visitors actually are moved from the homepage to different sites and links. Although nagivation may seem more complex without frames, it allowes visitors to fully explore the aspects of the other pages. To accomodate all viewers, I left the option open.

SPECIAL FEATURE

Most web pages share many qualities. Most have graphics, links and text, but not all have music. My web page plays music upon entering. I did however, add an option to turn the music off. I offer this option to those viwers who prefer 'silent travel'. I have had several compliments on the feature, I hope that all enjoy!

STYLE CHANGES

After reading styleguides by authors such as Strunk & White, Heidi Shultz and Joseph M. Williams, I learned that among many things, style, audience, nagivation, and clarity are very importtant aspects when writing for the public. I changes several things in my page after reviewing the rules, suggestions, and examples that these styleguides offered.

I made sure to keep my web page as simple as possible without loosing the attention of my audience. I attempted to target a broad audience. The graphics and the colors serve as attention getters for the younger crowd, while the textual information about the assignments on technological writing is beneficial for all. I made the language simple, but sophistacated so that most would be able to understand the text.

The layout of the page is relatively simple to nagivate through. The links have been checked and they all work. The frames offer viewers that eaily get lost in links an opportunity to view everything in one frame. I feel that the nagivation is appropriate for all viewers. The style guide by Heidi Shultz emphasized the importance of nagivation. I feel that I incorporated her advise correctly.

'Wordiness' (using too many words to express thoughts and/or ideas) is a topic that many of the authors discussed. I made sure to keep my text to the point (at least I tried). I know that too many words can loose the attention of a reader, or may even confuse them, so I made an honest attempt to keep discussion short.

After first critical viewing of my webpage, I decided to delete the MUSIC option. This decision was made to retain the 'professional' look. Although I feel that the music sets my page apart from many others, I did recognize the importance of professional presentation for this sype of webpage. The main purpose of constructing this page was to create and display a 'writing portfolio' of my technical writing portfolio. I hope that the adjustment will emphasize the meaning of this page!

Although my suggestions on what should be revised are personal and independent, I did take advise from styleguides such as SpiderPro. To review the rules that are suggested and how they changes my site, visit my evaluation.
