Say "Aloha " to Satsuki. Satsuki is the newest Rhino to reside at the Honolulu Zoo. She is  a black rhino. I use the word "black" subjectively. She has found out how good our Hawaiian red dirt feels!
The reason that this picture is blurry was because Satsuki was feeling quite rambunctious the day I took these photos. She was in a full charge and the ground was trembling beneath my feet. I wasn't too sure that the "little" wall and "pond" was going to stop her. Subsequently, my camera was doing a little shaking in my hands. She ran full charge toward the water, stopped on a dime and daintily leaned down to sip some water. VERY impressive no matter how you look at it. She's a real beauty.
She then decided that my heart wasn't beating fast enough, so she plunged head long into the water and allowed me to get  a real up close photo. According to a very friendly source at the Zoo, Bridgit Stegenga, Satsuki's horn was damaged before arriving at the zoo and she did some more damage to it on an exhibit. I was also told that it will grow back eventually. (whew!)
I absolutely  adore the littles black tufts of hair coming out of Satsuki's ears. It is the only place on her that has any hair.
