| This is a picture of a Grant's zebra. How do I know it is not a Burchell's zebra? Well, for one, the Honolulu Zoo only has Grant's zebras' and two, the Bruchell zebra has a distinctive light grey "shadow" stripe in between the darker stripes. It is the only South African zebra species that has that particular marking. The zebra looks like an extravagantly patterened donkey more than a horse. It has the short bristly manes, longer ears and tufted tails that both the donkey and mule share, ( Sorry I didn't get the tail in this picture. Just watch the Discovery channel during one of their "Big Cat" shows. You will see plenty of zebras. Watch the zebra tails in action then, you'll see that I am right. Or come to the zoo, that works too.) I like the way the texture of the zebra skin came out. Hopefully you can see it as well on your browser, but on mine it looks like velvet. Makes you just want to reah out and touch your computer screen. For some really good links to learn about Zebra's click below Honolulu Zoo Africam |
