Brittany is a very special little girl who has become very dear to my heart. When I became a Chemo Angel in March of 2001, I never knew what an important part of my life it would become. I was assigned to a little girl named Brittany who had already beat cancer once in her short life and was about to begin fighting all over again at the age of 10. Brittany was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on December 16, 1996. Brittany went into remission quickly and remained in remission for five years. On February 19, 2001, her mom brought her in for her normal check-up, only to be called later on that day and given the horrific news that her little angel's cancer was back. Britt is fighting it and doing a fantastic job. I am so proud of her and I am in awe of the courage and strength that this 12-year-old girl has. She is truly my hero. Brittany's mom, Brenda, and I formed an instant friendship. She continues to keep me informed on a daily basis about what Britt is dealing with and going through. I am so thankful for this relationship with Brenda, she has become a very good friend to me and I just know that we will remain friends even when Britt has beat this cancer monster ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!!!! I hope to be able to meet Britt and Brenda in person some day! UPDATE March 2004 Brittany is in remission again and doing GREAT - she is growing up so fast and growing into such a beautiful young lady!!! |
