9 Tarsahk 1361 D.R., as always
Since we didn't have much else to do, and we couldn't get rid of Isu, we decided to retire for the night and try again the next day. And while I was waiting outside, I noticed a statue of Ra on the front of the temple. I decided to humor the others and sent Sam up to look around it (after all, I was just too relaxed to climb all the way up to the roof and he was already there; the others think I boss the poor guy around a lot, but they just don't understand elven ways, I guess). Sure enough, there was something behind the statue! I take full credit for my brilliance. Funny, though; I'm thinking Dulcimae must have planted it there or something, but why couldn't she have just given it to us?
Imagine my surprise when we found out that the thing behind (or rather, inside) the statue was a scroll just like the one that we'd seen back in Marais d'Tarascon that caused so many problems! I suppose I might as well write it down in case it's useful later... You never know, after all; maybe one of these Vistani actually knew what she was talking about!
These signs were foreseen by Hyskosa, a Vistani most gifted with The Sight. Spread word of these wherever you travel. Only the true hearted can stop the fall of the night of evil.
Anyways, with nothing better to do, we headed out to bring Dulcimae's wagon into town (just in case it might come in handy), and we were going off to do that when we stumbled across a small mob, who promptly accused Sam of being a murderer! Now granted, he's a lousy cook, and he almost killed us all last time he made dinner, but I thought this accusation was somewhat beyond the pall, especially when the old lady who was saying all this stuff tried to prove it by pointing at the piece of Sam's pants (and I decline to tell you where it came from!) grasped in the hands of this dead body at the outskirts of the village. It seemed pretty obvious to me that the undead were to blame (after all, they'd had plenty of opportunities to grab various pieces of Sam's attire), and we were able to convince the mob not to hang him just yet. A change of scenery seemed prudent, however...
It was at this point that we noticed the ghost of Dulcimae! She quietly led us out into the desert for quite some time until we stumbled across a road that led towards the cliffs (the Walls of Ra, one presumes), and pointed out a cave or an opening somewhere in them. Then she turned around and went back towards her wagon. Very odd. Somehow, though, I think she was telling us where we needed to be on the upcoming Night of Thoth, so we made it a point to memorize the location of the cave, and then followed her back towards her wagon. I'm not quite sure what she was trying to show us next, but she suddenly turned towards the temple and went sprinting into town!
Somewhat tired of following the ghostly woman around for so long (also feeling a bit faint, or at least some of us; this sort of thing never used to happen to me, and I'm still not exactly accustomed to it. I really hate it here! Did I ever mention that I want to go home?), we ran back to the temple with her. Unfortunately, it was locked, so while Prihelm and Tolec tried to come in through the ceiling (there was a skylight there or some such), the rest of us looked for an alternate way in. Naturally, I found an (unlocked) back door, so while Haley and Al and Sam and I went through that way, the warriors sheepishly climbed back down the stairs to the outside of the temple and then followed us in. Isu was no where to be seen, but a strange light was coming from the inner sanctum.
We crept up to it, peaked in, and I, for one, passed out at what we saw! Isu was busily carving open Dulcimae and her brothers, cackling gleefully about serving Set. I couldn't believe that she would do such a thing! And it was just so gory, and this is another one of those things that life with Auntie Leandra didn't prepare me for and well, that was that. I want to go home! Wait, I just said that. Well, it's still true!
When I came to, Haley and Al and Sam were nowhere to be seen (I have this vague recollection of noting them bolt for the door before I blacked out), and Prihelm was standing there looking extremely paralyzed. Fortunately for us, Tolec was busy trying to extract his axe from Isu's spine, so I guess we must have won. Eventually, Prihelm got better, and the three of us went to find the others, who were cowering a bit outside the temple and wouldn't come anywhere near it. Since it was up to us to finish the exploration, we went back to the inner sanctum, down a secret staircase, and emerged in what proved to be a temple to Set or some such, complete with monster with glowing red eyes!
Now, I don't know about the rest of the world, but I've long since learned that monsters with glowing red eyes are best avoided, so I prudently backed up a bit, only to discover that it was actually just a statue with glowing red eyes and all was okay. Of course, the temple bore an aura of great evil, so I decided I might be better off grabbing what was left of my equipment from upstairs in preparation to leave town... And I was in the process of doing this when Prihelm called up that he thought there was a secret passage in the stairs, and I was reluctantly forced to go down and help him. I'm quite impressed that he found it, actually; granted that it wasn't well hidden, but Prihelm has never struck me as having a great deal of sense before, and I know his eyesight isn't as good as mine. But maybe it was an inspiration from Torm or something. Whatever the cause, though, he'd found the treasury.
Most of what was in it were a great deal of scrolls, and since Haley wouldn't come down to read them to us, we were forced to take them up to her. She found a pair of magical scrolls (and did her face ever light up!) as well as Isu's journal. Apparently, Isu wasn't always evil, but finding some description of the powers that came with serving Set, she was slowly and over time corrupted into his service, and that was that.
Meanwhile, the clearer thinkers amongst us (such as me) realized that it wouldn't do for the villagers to catch us in town; they already thought that we were murderers, and no one would believe that we'd killed Isu in self defense. So after pointing this out to the others, we decided to head for the hills (or actually the cliffs) and try to make it to that cave that Dulcimae had shown us before it got to hot to travel.
