35th Spring 1361 D.R.
So much for my good mood!
Somehow, I'm dragging everyone into my nightmares! I'm still having them, only now they're more vivid, everyone's in them, and we're all very afraid. Plus, I feel pain while I'm having these nightmares, and I have those wounds in the waking world too! This sucks!
I don't really want to talk about them, so I won't, but they've certainly spoiled my day!
We got to Port d'Elhour at dark. But before we could find an inn, we heard a moan. I didn't want to go investigate, but Haley insisted, and since she's my best bud, I went with her, as did the rest of us.
The noise, it turns out, was a young girl lying in the alley and bleeding to death. She died in Haley's arms, and next thing I knew, we were all accused of murder! Liss and I tried to make them think that he'd done it (after all, what could they possibly do to him?), but they didn't buy it, and next thing I know, we're all in jail!
Before I could make good our escape, we were set free; the dwarf Deruno from Marais d'Tarascon vouched for us, and the mayor released us. I was quite grateful to my only dwarven friend, but not so thrilled about having to stop another murder spree, though we do get free room and board and a (truly pitiful) reward for our troubles. Oh well, that's what we get for being heroes! Personally, I feel the need for a vacation...
By the way, did you know that dwarves can blush? You'd think that Deruno had never been hugged before in his entire life! Dwarves; go fig! On second thought, his being a dwarf explains everything (I mean, who'd really want to go around hugging the little bastards?)...
I don't know much about this killing spree, but for what it's worth... It used to be the case that every year three or four children would be killed in accidents or by the creatures of the nearby swamp. Recently, however, the deaths have been more frequent, and very mysterious as well. It seems that the bodies show signs of only a single wound (such as our dead girl, who had been slit from gullet to zorch and back). This more or less rules out attacks by animals and accidents, of course. So it seems that we have another psycho to catch. I feel bad about asking for a little cash, but I can't live on 25 coppers, and besides, this kind of thing is not in my job description! So I'm not exactly thrilled by all of this... Did I mention that I feel the need for a vacation?
I hear Haley calling me, so I'd better go see what my best friend (and the cause of both of my arrests, which I'm trying valiantly not to hold against her) wants. More, of course, tomorrow.
