Initial Reflection Paper IT 8090 ![]()
1.
What do you hope/expect to learn while you are in this course?
I
would like to learn some more computer terminology. I liked that we learned
about the different Internet lines tonight, and I would like to learn more about
the facts about the history, origin, and techie words. I would also liked to be
introduced to new software, but I think I will be extending the skills I already
know by creating more projects.
2.
What level of experience do you have with using web-based technologies in the
classroom?
I
have never taught school. I student taught, and I took the kids into the lab to
do mini WebQuests. I have created several lesson plans that utilize the Internet
though.
3.
What topics would you really miss if they were not covered in the course?
The
topics I would miss probably are not intended to be taught in this course. I go
back to my answer for number one. I am sure we are getting a light introduction
to the history and terms of the Internet instead of an overview.
4.
How should web-based technologies be used in the classroom?
I
think students should be able to use the web for research, bulletin boards,
experiments/activities, and teacher guided chats and e-mail.
5.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using web-based technologies in the
classroom?
Advantages:
Tons and tons of information available for you and the kids. You can be as
creative as you want to be if you are willing to do a little research, you can
find all sorts of lesson plans to introduce a common topic in an uncommon way.
Kids can do experiments on line, and you can get the latest and greatest
information.
Along
with that comes the disadvantages: sources can be invalid, kids can surf the
wrong places, and you can get caught up in technical problems for example.
