| The Story |
| Seventeen year-old Jamie Prescott is the seventh child of his generation and, as a result, is cursed to be a vampire hunter. All is well until an exotic stranger named Lieka Bryce transfers to Madison High. Her arrival throws Jamie's world into chaos, both at school and during his nightly work. Before he knows it, he is involved in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with a rogue vampire who has escaped the Sanguia, the king of vampire's best assassin. As the growing number of attacks become more and more personal, Jamie is forced to cast aside his pride and seek outside help in an attempt to defeat the new darkness that has invaded his hometown. The vampires of The Hunter Novels are not the typical creatures of horror literature. They can eat regular food and walk in the sun. Though they play an important role, they are not the heart of the story. The actual focus is to examine the different facets of good and evil. The story mixes and twists what seem to be the typical occurances in the life of one teenager to show that the battle between good and evil is anything but black and white, especially when you juggle hunting vampires and finding a date for Homecoming. |

| Lieka, what are we doing here?
She glanced back over her shoulder and gave me a glare. Do you have any instincts at all, Hunter? I stared as she crawled a little further through the pipe. She was wearing a glorious pair of worn out, tight jeans. I have some instincts, I muttered. Unfortunately, I felt a tickle in my head too late to shut off the image. She chuckled and didnt say anything else. It was not the first time I hated our strange mental connection. Ever since wed started sharing blood, we had a telepathic bond. And once again, Lieka could use it better than me; it was irritating to say the least. Frustrated, I closed my eyes and tried to focus on the task at hand. A new group of vampires had started some sort of recruiting center and Dauntaye had suggested that we go check it out. Therefore, we were stuck sludging our way up through an ancient sewer pipe whose contents had long turned into a sticky mess. Being a vampire hunter definitely sucked at times. Stop. I shook my head as her words bounced through my skull. Damn it, I hissed, couldnt you please warn me before you do that? No. I shifted uncomfortably. Whats wrong? Hunter, you need to be quiet. Sorry, its just that Im kind of claustrophobic. But only when we stop and let me realize where I am. Be quiet! My palms were sweaty. Lieka, I think we need to keep moving. Finally she whispered something. What? I didnt catch that. Theyre right Then the pipe crumbled underneath us and we crashed to a very hard floor. Lieka, of course, landed gracefully on her feet. Show-off, I muttered as I rose gingerly to my feet, trying to see through the cloud of dust. Jamie. I warned you. Yeah, yeah. I brushed a greenish chunk of slime from my shoulder. When I finally looked up, I realized that we were completely surrounded. And at the confused looks on these baby vamps faces, I couldnt help laughing. Lieka smiled dubiously. Whats so funny? Well, Im just sure theyre thinking that Ive got to be the crappiest hunter theyve ever seen. I snorted and pointed at a blonde girl. And she doesnt look too scared of you either. Now Lieka started laughing. I guess it is pretty funny for a sociopathic vampire princess to hear that shes not scary. She looked at the blonde. Im not that scary, am I? The blonde chittered nervously and managed to squeak out, No, not really. So Lieka stuck her hand into the blondes chest and pulled out her heart. And as she stands there, staring at it as it leaks in her hand, I see the subtle changes in her delicate features and know shes changed. But it was only when she squished it between her fingers and the blonde dropped lifelessly to the floor that all hell broke loose. All told, I think we killed half of their group. And it was fun. Kind of like Laurell and Hardy on PCP. |
