BATTLE BANNER
The tide of war rages, and the armies of warhammer rally under the battle banner
Painting Faces
The usual place to start painting is the flesh/face areas of the model. Lets start with a White Lion High Elf model.
Base Paint
Begin by painting the flesh areas a light flesh tone. Elf Flesh is used for this model. The paint can be watered down 1 part paint to 1 part water if it is too thick to work with.
Wash
To create the contrast between raised and recessed areas, give the flesh areas a wash. This is usually a color that is 3 to 4 shades darker than the base flesh color. Here, dark flesh is diluted with 3-4 parts water and painted over the base paint.
1st Highlight
The 1st highlight is a color that is 2-3 shades different from the base color (Elf Flesh in this case). To get this color, mix dark flesh to Elf flesh in a 1 to 1 ratio. Paint this over all areas except for the most recessed areas.
2nd Highlight
The 2nd highlight is a color that is 1-2 shades different from the base color (Elf Flesh in this case). To get this color, mix dark flesh to Elf flesh in a 1 to 2 ratio. Paint this over the more pronounced areas (eg. nose, cheek, chin, forehead)
3rd Highlight
The 3rd highlight is the base color (Elf Flesh in this case) or 1 shade lighter. To get this color, mix White to Elf flesh in a 1 to 1 ratio or just use Elf Flesh. Paint this on the most pronounced areas (eg. bridge of nose, raised area of cheek, chin, brow area, forehead). Do this sparingly.
Eyes
This step makes or breaks a model. An outline for the eye needs to be created 1st before painting the eyeball and pupil. Paint the eyes sockets black. For the white areas of the eye, use a fine tip brush and paint the 2 sides of the eye, leaving the centre black area as the pupil
